How often do you update nav maps?

GMNavDisk.com is a bit spendy. My wife & I each got an update free by asking nicely and being persistent. Kox also sent me one that I paid forward. I also 'paid forward' a set from one of the upgrades.

There are a few improvements but to be honest, this is obsolete technology. In the future, it's all going to be done in real time over wireless/G?

Shouldn't the 2011 STS have come with a 2012 disk or maybe a 2011 disk?
Maybe a call to gmnavdisk will get you an upgrade free.

Also, they have a new site it would seem:

I bought our 2011 used and it came with a non OEM nav disc. It looks like someone burned a copy off their PC. It works fine but I have no idea what version it is.

Put it in a PC or Mac and read the DVD label. It should match with one of the DW464210-???? ISO's named above.

The original purchaser of the car would have gotten a disk or set. In my opinion, they would have been entitled to make a backup copy. Ethically speaking, the original should have stayed with the car. You may be in violation of the software license. Whoever sold you the car almost certainly violated the license. IMHO, the seller owes you an original 2011 disk.

I'm still using the 2010... I read that the new disk just has updated poi so I'm not in a hurry to update.
I bought my 08 and checked the disk but the car didn't have one. I told the Cadillac dealer that I purchased it from that I will either take my 2010 disk from my 06 I was trading in, or they need to provide a new disk with the car. Obviously they told me to take my disk....
