: Help identify airbag year
07-06-13, 02:32 PM
Can anyone help what year this airbag is used from... 2008 to ? I bought this a while back for my 2008 wheel, cannot identify any part number shown on the bag

I would think a dealer could read the bar code and that would tell you what year.
07-06-13, 03:19 PM
maybe state side not here, tried that, but good suggestion!I assume the bar code is the same as the bold numbers above, or maybe the bar code has other info

I think barcodes don't have letters.

Maybe I should rephrase the question, does anyone else have connections like these and if so what year is your SRX

If you have an android phone then maybe a bar code reader app would work.

Here is a 2010 to 2013 airbag, so mine has to be 2008 to 09, I have read there were 3 different color codes the 2004 to 07 being purple/gray, the following being pink/white, and last turquoise/yellow

It appears this inflator was manufactured by TRW in Mesa AZ. Many many years ago I actually toured one of their facilities in Mesa. A couple years or so ago they were trying to sell the facilities. Don't know the outcome. Which leads me to your question.... you might try contacting TRW (try www.trwauto.com for a link). Many someone could guide you to what vehicle/model years this inflator was use.

from what i can see in the parts catalog there are two steering wheel harnesses for the 2008-2009 SRX
one is for NP5 option code and the other is for either N31 or NR7
but that doesn't mean that the connectors for the airbag are different (they shouldn't be)
especially since those RPO codes have to do with heated steering wheel options
the parts catalog isn't even really clear if these steering wheel harnesses have the airbag connectors on them
what I can tell from the service manual is that the connector for the airbag in the steering wheel on a 2008 SRX should look like this
and that looks like the second picture you posted (the one you say is 2010+)
the connector below is for a 2009 SRX
looks like the one you've got is from a 2009
what is clear from the service manual is that to get these connectors you have to purchase a whole harness
this is typical with airbag parts and body harnesses
GM does not typically want anyone to modify/repair body harnesses (especially airbag ones)

Its the clock spring that needs replacing to match the connections. Find a clock spring for SRX 08-09 and it will match.
So the connector in the second drawing has to be flipped upside down so the crescent is pointing up not down on the white pin. I have a clock spring but the crescent on the white pin is down also like the drawing, in order to connect one would have to flip the pin upside down.
I can post a pic connected in a little while to show if this is correct.

so there's apparently two clock springs again to match the steering wheel options
#19168048 (w/ n31 or nr7)
#19168049 (w/ np5)
they both say that they come with the harness
list prices are $267 and $215 respectively

Here is a pi showing the air bag and connections above
In order to connect I have to flip the connections as shown, to me I would have thought the wires would be down not over
According to the manual these pins match, so flipping it as in the pic above will match the airbag
Thanks Rippy for your help! Once again you go beyond.
I just found a classmate from class of 91 from CFCC. Hope to come to Wilmimgton soon! Sorry members to go off subject
Please feel free if anyone else has a 08-09 SRX, if they feel like pulling off or have pulled off the airbag, tell me if the connections to the airbag have the wires going down or over as shown in the pic above.

first two pics are not showing up (stupid photobucket ... why i always use imageshack)
PM me your email and I'll shoot you a pdf from the service manual ... close reading might answer your question about routing of the connectors/wires

Anybody else not see the pics Rippy mentions?
07-30-13, 05:53 PM
Not sure which pics he means but I see: Post #1 - 1 pic, post #7 - 1 pic, post#13 - 3 pics
07-30-13, 06:15 PM
yep so its ok then all show in post 13
By the way SFVetteman wanna race
07-30-13, 07:04 PM
That's one modded Chrysler. Outside of a set of HRE P47SC wheels that I run on the street, the '99 Vette looks stock...all the mods are under the skin. BTW, standing 1/4 mile: 11.84@122 and cornering 1.65+ g's. But I digress...

All sorted thanks rippy! Sent the x wife out for groceries and all is well, no service air bag on DIC or red light, and she came back so it did not go off.
07-31-13, 11:06 AM
i see all three in post#13 now ... weird
did you get the email i sent?
07-31-13, 11:18 AM
Yes just changed clock springs, it has to be upside down like that because then it would not match the color codes or stages HIGH-LOW, in other words pin 1 would be pin 2, the last photo with windows paint shows why
07-31-13, 01:20 PM
Awesome... glad you got it sorted out
