I registered on this site to place a bet with Hubby. Please help!
I say that there are body differences in the 2 years and he says they are exactly the same thing. I know there are some obvious differences such as the exaust. What are some other differences (even subtle as they may be) such as trim along the body. If I remember correctly, the 92 has a chrome like trim and the 99 is painted. We've "debated" this several times and I'm about to put and end to it by placing a bet on it. But, I want to have my guns loaded. Also, the trunk area seems to be larger in depth than the older model or it might just be the illusion from the dual exaust. We're comparing the body style on a 92 base model with a 99 ETC. Can you help me win a night out on the town!!
Thanks
Michelle

Some other differences that I am aware of, but excluding engine/drivetrain:
Tail lamp lenses
Automatic transmission shifter bezel
Some Eldorados came with full digital instrumentation (not ETC dependant)
Wheels, 1992 has 16" 1999 ETC option was 17"
Front and rear bumper covers and facias
Grill is chrome with chrome surround on 92 base, painted on 99 ETC
Body side trim is chrome on the base 92, delete on the 99 ETC
Interior, base 1992 has two tone dash and side panels, 1999 ETC is monotone.
A rear wing was available for the 1999 ETC as an option. This would make the trunk deck look taller.
To the best of my knowledge, the body panels will interchange from 92-99 to include trunk deck, doors, rear quarter panels, front fenders, hood.
The Coupe DeVille was dropped in favor of the 1992 Eldorado (sporty DeVille style) which then, will be the only production line 2dr Cadillac available other than the "specialty" Allante through the 1999 model years. The Eldorado is retired mid year 2002 with only the "Collector" series available until the end of production.
Just my opinion... I love my 1992 Eldorado, but I think Cadillac should have dropped it by the end of the 1993 production year and kept the 4.9L engine as the only option. Cadillac should have improved the Allante and moved forward with that as the sporty "personal" Cadillac until the current (sport) models were ready for production. Financially, and as a business decision, the Eldorado was not a popular "selling" choice due to the competition of the times, although as a product, it was a premium "personal" luxury car. I am sure I will get sharded for my opinion, but it is only my 2¢ and worth less than that retail! :halo:
Thanks 91TexasSeville!
I knew there was something a little different about the rear and I didn't think about the bumper covers and facias. We have owned a 92 and a 99 and I have to agree that they were very nice cars. God, I loved that Northstar! As a trucker, it irks me to have to tap my brake for a Northstar to get on (what we call) the big road. I guess people are scared to punch the accelerator for fear the car will come out from under them.
Thank you again. It looks like I've won yet another bet. All I have to do now is sit back patiently and wait for the subject to come up again.

Allantes do not look as good as Eldos and they don't have back seats. 1993 base Eldo: $33,900. 1993 base Allante: $59,975. I am glad Cadillac did not share your opinion.

Hi everyone. I have a question. I have a 92 Eldo. Looks great but Im a bit jealous when I compare the rear bumper area to lets say a 98. Can I just change the rear bumper and its as easy as that? And if so is it worth the cost as I will most likely be buying from the dealer.
You Can Change The Rear Bumpers But You Are Going To Have To Modify Them A Bit For The To Fit But If U Change The Rear Ur Going To Have To Change The Front Also Because They Wouldnt Match The Front Bumper Cover Is Square With A Black Fender At The Very Bottom It Would Look Very Tacky Maybe Not To People Who Dont Own One They Probably Wouldnt Know The Difference A The Chrome Peace That Runs Around The Front Bumper Is Way Thicker Than The 95-02 Body Styles.
Ive Done Alot Of Research On The Differences Between The To Cars And There Body Parts I Probably Know More Than Cadillac Them Selves (lol).

To clarify things a bit...
The 1992-2002 eldorados went through several TRIM changes (grille treatments, side moldings, chrome vs. painted trim, wheel styles and sizes, etc.) over the years but the basic body style was unchanged.

Thanks for the info Hue. I know what you mean about it looking tacky because of the black painted trim. Luckily the trim on my Eldo is painted to match the pearl white body! My mirrors and grille are also painted to match so the car apears newer than the average 92. Im in the process of buying a new 2002 grille from the dealer,$230 and they paint to match.Ill be looking into the back bumper soon. Thanks again.
