I was wondering how you reset transmission oil life on 2005 Cadillac sts v6, it makes my engine light turn on and I already changed it.

After the oil has been changed, the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message must be reset. To reset the message use the following procedure:
1. Press the up or down arrow to scroll the DIC to show OIL LIFE.
2. Once the XXX% ENGINE OIL LIFE menu item is highlighted, press and hold the RESET button until the percentage shows 100%.
If the percentage does not return to 100% or if the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message comes back on when you start your vehicle, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.

^I think he was talking about the transmission not the engine, in that case, if your car have it, just follow the same procedure above.

As I recall, the ability to reset transmission oil life is not possible by the vehicle operator. What makes you believe that the transmission oil life is causing the MIL? Is there some message that appears on the DIC suggesting this is the cause of the fault?

My '06 STS doesn't have a transmission OLM, only engine. My '04 CTS had a transmission OLM.

Do any of the STSs have that? First I've heard if it.

Page 261. Short answer, no there is no Trans life monitor. The only thing Trans related is the v showing the fluid temp, among other extras the v shows.

The post is titled oil in the v6 Trans which he probably brain farted and meant to say engine. I think btlegacy answered his question.

I've only seen it in the SRX. But apparently some CTS cars had it as well.

No, that is not entirely correct. I can use my Tech2 to determine the percentage of transmission fluid life remaining. This is something GM had been working on, but from what I understand, was never developed to the point it was implemented on a large scale basis.

That's why i said if your car have it, I don't have it on the 09 but i do in my srx so i thought maybe they removed this feature somewhere in between 05 and 09.

My '04 CTS had a trans life monitor, not the STS though...

I have the transmission oil life monitor in both my 2004 Bonneville GXP (same engine and transmission as the DeVille) and my 2008 STS. However, there is no way to view/access the information without my Tech2. The photos below are from my STS.

Interesting. I'm gonna roll the dice and say that the op is referring to resetting the oil life percentage on the driver information center. Pretty cool stuff though.
