: STS-V Oil Change Intervals

I got an oil change at 51,320 at the local dealer. They slapped a sticker on there that says my next oil change is at 56,320. I'm just under 56k. Manual says to wait until the light comes on or yearly. Just read a car and driver article about how dealers like to come out with their own version of the service interval thing and it's a scam. It says you should follow what the manufacturer says in the owner's manual. What's the right answer in your experience.

I usually do it a few percents before the car says to. If you don't trust that you could get at least 8k out of 9 qts of synthetic oil. 5k is ridiculous.

Gotcha last question, at what percentage does the warning come on?

I learned that if you run your car hard the oil will break down and can lead to the seals going out early. I do mine every 5k miles and don't look back after. if your smart about it you can change the oil for 5o or 60 with no issues.

How hard do you drive your car dude? You're replacing things right and left...

Anyway; I'm part of the camp that changes the oil when the car says to. Sent 95% used oil to Blackstone, they said it was nearly used up (surprise!). That was about 13,200 miles and 10 months of driving. They said it would have gone 15,000. I buy the oil when I see 10% life remaining then drive around for a month with it in my trunk cuz I have no time in life.

The oil life algorithm is accurate. Just follow it.

i drive mine VERY hard. it gets ran hard Thursday Friday saturdy and sunday every week. I bought it to play with, and I do. however, I have heard from several caddy techs around here that a main cause of the of the oil manifold seals going out. they suggested that it be changed every 5 or every 3. so I listened and do that.

I usually go once or twice a year, but I've only put like 1500 miles on it in the last year. Had it done earlier this year since I got a coupon from the local stealership. Out the door 87 and change. I actually don't think it was that bad of a deal at all.

Mine pulls commuting duty, 100 miles a day round trip to/from work.

I getting ready to turn 10,000 miles on the oil and the DIC shows it only down to 40%. I'll be changing it at 10K.

You make my head spin....500 miles a week!?!? So you fill up, what, Monday/Wednesday/Saturday?? LOL
Also, for as much as I trust the algorithm I'd never go 25,000 miles, but with all those highway miles I bet your oil will be in good shape when you change it.

Any interest in sending it to Blackstone for an analysis?

Yep, I alternate 3 times one week, twice the next to the tune of about $500 a month, averaging about 21mpg. Tried the small and economy car route for a couple of years but couldn't handle sitting in traffic in a car I don't feel safe or comfortable in.

I'm thinking about the oil analysis route just to see what it has been doing. Might not get time for this oil change but maybe the next 10K change I could suck some out for an analysis. This car I can't do the oil changes on due to the dealer's powertrain warranty. They offer a lifetime, as long as you own the vehicle warranty provided you have the maintenance performed by them. We'll see how they honor that when the time comes. I'm guessing about $200 for the synthetic oil change for this car.
