Hope the flagship sedan GM comes up with is a winner. Maybe elements of the Ciel will carry over. Then again, knowing GM, probably not.

Ciel may be gone but an LTS is still on the way. A full size Cadillac priced similarly to the LS460, 7-series, and S-class (excluding double-six-figure AMG and specialty models) is coming.

Exactly.

What they're talking about is a hyper luxury car that could have been competing well into the six figure zone like an S65 AMG or a baby rolls/Bentely

They're still going to be attacking the fullsized executive car segment.

It's not entirely surprising.

It's not entirely surprising. Its actually a smart decision, imo. The Cadillac brand doesnt have the cachet to go head to head with Bentley and Rolls. Not yet. The full size luxury market will be a tough nut to crack, too. The only way Cadillac could compete in the hyper luxury market in the very near future is if it was completely bespoke, AND very unique. Just like the ATS-V going after the M3, or the CTS-V and the E60 M, you have to beat the best to be considered with them.

Its too bad the Ciel is dead, tho...it hit all the right buttons.

indeed, it's probably for the best for now.

It took Audi 20 years to reach the apex of it's legitimacy with the R8 after all, and it could be said that only recently with the alpha platform has Cadillac established that they can best the Germans at their own game in all respects.

I hope that it'll only take another 5 years or so of brand establishment before a Ciel is back on the table.
