Alright, so work on the car is continuing smoothly, but it came to my attention the other day that the cat on it is worse than dead. I don't want to spend any money on a replacement, and I don't want to leave it there where it can ruin my mileage and performance without cleaning the exhaust, so I was wondering if it was possible to drill the innards out of the type they used this year.

Someone mentioned that it could be a model he called a "monolith", that used long rods instead of a honeycomb structure the way modern ones do. The guy who's offering to do it for me doesn't know if drilling works on a non-honeycomb design, so I figured this was the best place to ask.

As usual, all advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

put in a pipe, and scrap the converter. you can get about 4 bux for it because the guts are platinum. it won't just drill out like a honeycomb one. there are ways, but it still weighs a ton. even a new high flow catco can be had on ebay for under $40

Yeah, I was worried that it wouldn't drill the way others do. Oh well, nothing wrong with a straight pipe.
