Ok. So, 2 years ago I bought a 72 caddy. The engine was nice but I messed it up when I over revved it and a rod gave. Anyway, I went to a junkyard and got another 72 472. I completely rebuilt it, and put in all the goodies, edelbrock intake, comp cams, etc.. It pulled so well, I first snapped the u-joints in the driveshaft then burned my brand new primary clutch, really nice power :)

Not too long ago, I junked the car. I have this beast, with less then 2k miles on it sitting in my dads garage. I recently bough a straight six 67 stang. Not for the engine but for the condition the body was in.
So, over the last year, I spent 15k in it. I repainted the inside, dynamatted everything, new weatherstripping,etc.. The only thing I have to do now is put in a drivetrain.

Here is my idea, drop the 472 in, get a mustang 2 front end if need be, get a ford 9 inch posi and see what happens. My question is, how many of you thing that this can be done. And if it can, how much work would have to be done. Also, how many of you are offended cause I want a GM product in a FORD? LOL

Well, how else can you get so much torque? I really dont like high revving high hp engines, Id rather snap some more drive shafts :)

GM in a Ford? That's the only way to go! Kinda like all the '32 roadsters out there with Chevy engines. I haven't heard of many Cad engines in Mustangs, but anythings possible with the right motor mounts! Contact Cad Company or MTS for mounts.

Might want to do some measuring before you get started. There isn't much room between the towers on those cars.

Room is a problem. Thats why I was considering the mustang II suspension, that way, the shock towers can be taken out.

GO FOR IT MAN!!!! that is a sweet idea. remember anything is possible with a wielder and a grinder. i'm all about doing things that are rarely done or never done before. that would be a sweet sleeper. don't listen to anyone that is against the whole keeping gm stuff in gm cars and ford stuff in ford cars. those people are just afraid of the other brand and thats why they don't like the brands to swap. would be awsome to have a 5speed in the car. although it might be hard to find a bell housing. but i guess you could use a bell housing from either a buick, pontiac,or olds. :lildevil:

keep us posted on the progress

I would never have though that I would get so much support for this project. I though I was gonna be ridiculed and assaulted :)

How much does that thing weigh? I predict some traction problems in your future.

Remember, the 67 Stang was platform for the Shelby GT500 big blocks. They came in 427 and 428 cid versions I do believe. It is possible to stuff a big block in there, maybe without going to the Mustang II front end. I have no idea what physical size diferences there are beween the Ford 427 and Cad 472?

I say, go for it!

The 428 cobra jet had 335 hp and the 429 had 376. I believe my 472 is pulling around 420 hp and 600 torque. Might have some traction problems :)

Sounds like a nice engine swap. Luxlx has done it in a fox body mustang and finished 17th in the pump gas drags. You will need to mate it to a TH 400 tranny for best results. Try to get a TH 400 from a Cadillac. Manual transmission will not last with the torque the Caddy powerplant puts out and would be very expensive to configure and it will break sooner or later. Keep us updated on your progress. I did it with a 1976 El Camino, and am currently swapping a 500 into a 1984 Buick Regal. Take your time and get an adaptor plate from MTS or Flashcraft for motor mounts. Flash includes mounts in his kit or you can pick them up at NAPA for about $8.00 each.

There are numerous kits to put a ford 460 in mustangs...the 472 I think is actually not quite as wide as the big ford...Awesome project, if you do decide to do it that way. D'ya have any pics of the mustang you could throw up here for us to ogle? I know, I know...caddy forum and all, but its a caddy engine plan, so it'll be alright :)
