: Is an Escalade transmission failure at 56K miles normal?

Dear Customer Service,
I have a 2006 Escalade that I bought new in January 2007. This vehicle is driven very lightly and only has 57K miles on it. Two weeks ago I started noticing a shudder at about 45 -50 mph when the torque converter was "locking" up. I called my dealership and they advised me to bring it in and they would look at it. They also advised me that the warranty was expired as the 100K mile warranty was only on the 2007-up models. Because I was planning on go on a trip I brought it in to a transmission specialist, Kennedy Transmission as they could get it in right away. I had also noticed that a milky pink fluid was coming out of my radiator overflow. They found that a leak in the radiator caused anti-freeze to go into the transmission and transmission fluid into the radiator. The antifreeze destroyed the torque converter and other components and was causing the shudder. They replaced the radiator and torque converter to the tune of $3400. In reading other posts I found that, although rare, other people have had the same problem. My previous vehicle was a 2002 Escalade (same color) that at 80K miles needed new head gaskets and other repair. Rather than spending money on the repair I traded it for this new one. As you can see, my experience with Cadillac and two $70K vehicles has not been steller. I would really appreciate hearing from someone on this matter. This is not how a high-end, luxury automobile or company should operate. Thank you. Steve

Hello sjhallmn,

We also saw your post over at http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-escalade-ext-esv-forum-1999/316185-transmission-radiator-shot-56k-due-leak.html#post3605145 and apologize that you have not had the kind of experience we hope to provide for our drivers.

We would like to check into this further. Is Kennedy Transmission affiliated with GM in any way, or are they independent? Please contact us via private message with additional information (including your name, contact information, and the last 8 digits of your VIN).

WHAT A JOKE THIS COMPANY IS! The case gets "elevated" to the district rep in Buenos Aires, Argentina who tells me my Escalade is out of warranty and that Cadillac has no obligation to do anything. After two weeks working with Customer Service this is what you get when your case gets "elevated". You get contacted by someone who can barely speak English to tell you the obvious. No doubt that I will never own another Cadillac or GM product again. It is no wonder that they needed the bailout by the government. I just wonder how long it will be before they need another one due to their ineptness. Cadillac should be ashamed of this. Good luck to all other Cadillac owners.

They will probably need another bailout if they start paying for repairs done by a non-GM dealer on an out of warranty vehicle for customers without an extended warranty plan available to cover these situations should they occur.
