Any suggestions for a brand of (points-to-electronic) conversion kit for a '73 472? ~~ Also, does anybody know if these kits are compatible with MSD ignition?

Only difference is I'm looking for one for a '69 472. davesdeville 02-13-05, 04:35 AM I'd just find a junkyard HEI unit, clean it up and use it. If you have to do something else to it put in a "hotter" coil and replace the ignition control module just as preventative maintenence. HEI is good for 6500 RPM, which is about double what your stock engines are shifted at. Sasquatch 02-13-05, 08:41 AM Definetly go with the HEI dist. instead of a conversion kit. I just installed one in my 69 Caddy Hearse with a 472 motor what a huge difference. When you get ready to install it be sure to put a 10 degree vac. advance can in the distributor and you'll be ready to go. Here's a great link provided by Dead Sled in another thread. http://www.oldengine.org/unfaq/hei.htm http://images5.theimagehosting.com/HEI.jpg 69CDV 02-27-05, 03:41 AM Another thing I was wondering... Where could I pick up one of these units new? I see Jeg's has lots of Accel and MSD distributors, and so do a few other online stores... All for $170 and up. Are there any Accel or MSD HEI distributors you'd recommend? What are the price ranges a person would be looking at? lux hauler 02-27-05, 09:54 AM Definetly go with the HEI dist. instead of a conversion kit. TorqueInc 02-27-05, 10:39 PM If you can make a HEI work use one Stand alone unit all under the cap Just install MSD or Accel internals and go ....pretty simple Next best thing is ACCEL as far as price there is one on ebay for $159 and that $4 dollars more than i pay for them wholesale....good buy! 69CDV 02-27-05, 11:53 PM Next best thing is ACCEL as far as price there is one on ebay for $159 and that $4 dollars more than i pay for them wholesale....good buy! Nice to hear I got a good deal on it... I bought it last night. :coolgleam Sasquatch 02-28-05, 06:46 AM No belts rubbing. Mootsman 03-03-05, 09:50 AM You might want to experiment with different spring rates in the distributor once it's installed to put your advance curve where you want it.. just my .02 BIG BIRD 03-05-05, 09:22 PM I'm not looking for any performance upgrade just yet. I just don't want to deal with adjusting points, and I'd like to burn all (most) of the gas being sucked into this thirsty beast. | |
