: Buick goes Japan...and Germany?...Lucerne...

Well, theres been alot of talk of late of brands copying brands...Buick seems to have officially done it better than just about anyone else. In some wild haired design theme the new Full Size Buick Lucerne is IMO one of the strangest looking executions yet. Look closely at the front and back ends, it is almost pure Q45 at the front, and those tail-lights sure do look Phaeton-ish to me! As if thats not enough... that roofline is so close to BOTH the Q and Phaeton I can't tell which its closer to.

Damn, that does look like they put two together and slapped Buick badges on it.

You're right. That design is so bland and uninteresting it could only have been copied from a Japanese luxury car company. :p

Buick has been doing quite a bit of using other brands for "inspiration". Am I the only one who thinks that the sheetmetal on the new LaCrosse has echoes of Jaguar?

...and forgive me if this is off the subject, but how did the innovative LaCrosse concept become the car Buick slapped it's name on?

I don't think it looks so terrible.

Buick.com has a Lucerne section up. The car looks OK, but I won't be obsessing over it. The base engine is a 195hp 3800 that qualifies as a SULEV. The optional engine is a 275hp Northstar. WTF? I thought the Lucerne was getting the new LS4. I guess it isn't refined enough for a luxury application. I'm not so sure I like the idea of Northstars being proliferated throughout the GM line up.

I guess the front could be oddly reminiscent of the Taurus as well...

It looks OK. I kinda see a resemblance with the taillights but not the front end and grille...

Interoir looks like a Seville STS

In my country Lucerne is a label on milk. In Canada, milk drinks you!

What do you think of the roofline Dave? This is actually what surprised me the most... that roofline at least to me is a dead ringer for the Q and the rest of the Nissan car line.

Hey Rob... (and everyone else) Not "d'oh!"... My thread title was pretty bad I guess... It makes no indication of WHICH buick im talking about... oops.. ;) I went ahead and MERGED both of the threads into one combined thread so the timeline might be a little off but I think for the most part it makes sense.

Derivative styling worked really well for Lexus. Hmmm...

The Q roof and Phaeton tail are definitely copies. The nose is still Buick.

What would Harley Earl do?

i love the way it looks ....but then again i love the Q45 and the phaeton (outside the VW badge on a 60k+ car)

I saw the paheton back in 01 in alaska ...we chased that basturd down at 11pm at night as we knew it was a testmule for the paheton ...we chased it right into the back of the local VW dealer ( where VW would store test mules temporarily)....the pictures didnt come out good so we didnt get much ..but it was fun to play "spy"

I made up for it when i got pics of the XLR 2 years before it came out

Lutz wants to position Buick as the Lexus fighter.
