: Hand Built Motors

I've heard that the 4.4L motors used in our Vs are put together by hand in stead of on an assembly line. If they are, is their a signature on the motor somewhere by the mechanic. My son has a 2013 Shelby GT 500 with a hand built motor and the builders signed a plate on the motor.

I've had my V since Dec 08 and have never had the plastic cover off the motor. I'm gonna check it out and find the signature and post it. Not gonna be this coming week though.

Definite nice touch by GM for the STS V.

Don't forget xlr-v. I'm willing to bet the high price of these cars has a lot to do with the engine. Another large part the interior.

Yeah that is a part of the reason the XLR died.
Nobody thought about it very often.
There is a new owner of a non V XLR just down the road from me. Silver and the owner likes to leave it outside with the top down all the time.

Interesting. Back home there's an xlr-v and a cts-v coupe on my block. I make the 3rd.

Yeah, that's what happens when the vehicles get cheap on the used market, I noticed the same thing with the Corvettes. Once they become cheap enough for the average Joe to afford you start seeing them treated like a $20K car. Good and bad in that. Good for me price-wise buying them used, bad for me in having to sort through so many abused/neglected vehicles trying to find a decent one.

I want to say that I've only seen maybe 3 XLRs 'in the wild' in the last 5 years. None of them were "V".
The one down the road from me, one in the winter on snowy roads back when I was in college (when it was still a production car) and one just as a random passerby.

They're a very visually stunning car in person. I'd say they have the looks and proportions to hang with supercars. Definitely makes the Nissan gtr look civil.

I took it off when I started customizing. Will have to look through the junk drawer. I think it was Darrel _______.

Left side of the engine under the intake pipe on the passenger side. Remove the plastic cover on the left to access it.
