I think it looks pretty good! They are just trying to make it look more like the STS/Cts it seems? Seems a little more square.

What's going on with hp?? Now the DTS is back up to 300 hp?! Why did they lower it for '05, because if it was to meet emissions, why is it up again for '06?

The DTS fits the new lineup pretty well, but I'm not too impressed with it right now. It does look a sight better than the presidential limo that was being paraded around however.

i like it except for that wierd 4 horizontal bars under the grill at the bottom. Other than that, it looks nice. I just hope Cadillac doesn't make it too radical looking (more like the STS i mean) since afterall, the Deville is the last Cadillac Car with a ....REAL NAME! they better not start calling it the DTS like they did with the seville/STS.

..REAL NAME! they better not start calling it the DTS like they did with the seville/STS.

It's funny that I call the base Deville the "Deville." But if I want to imply it's the high power/sport version I call it the "DTS." I guess I've fallen trap to the European way of thinking for this car.

I dunno ...I miss the 00-05 DTS/Deville/DHS already .......I really liked that car ....now i see this thing with an XLR nose and a ...well you all know what i think of the tail ....

I think it's cleaner and better looking than the Deville it replaces.

Thanks for the link Ralph.

Ok... I am warming up to the front end, not because I dont like it, but because Im seeing waaaay to much STS in it, I do like it overall BETTER than the previous sort of frumpy front end though, in other words there is a very keen balance to the lighting grille and bumper (though the old one still looked very good). And heres the cool thing, I will need to find confirmation of this, but Im willing to bet those projector headlamps mean Xenon lights finally come to the DTS!

The interior is WORLDS better than the interior it replaces. Instead of having some of those areas where it seemed like the wood was kind of fake where it "molded" into the sides of the dash, this one has a nice straight dash with beautiful wood, a TERRIFIC navigation system and center stack and great look overall. It definitely seems like a more user friendly interior.

The fact that they threw in the Adaptive Cruise Control is a PLEASANT SURPRISE! Go Cadillac on this one, I think ALOT of DTS Buyers will be highly appreciative of the fact that Caddy is recognizing them as tech savvy. Combine that with the ventilated seats (which by the way the Toyota Avalon even has now, so its no longer a luxury car feature only), advanced navigation system and the trick gauge cluster with a genuine analog clock tossed in for good measure, and youve got a great feature package that rivals the STS....

Ahh but there-in lies the problem ladies and gentlemen... If you noticed, Cadillac's own exec seemed to have an attitude of "wed rather not deal with peoples bitching if we kill it, so here you go, we redesigned it to squeeze some more life out of it, so shut up" but it seems pretty obvious that NOW in its current state, keeping it around any longer than they need to is probably not what they want. Why? Because if you notice, with ALL theyve done to it, it has basically turned into a front wheel drive STS (with suspension and ride tweaks to boot). This might seem cool, but its really going to cause alot of unwanted confusion and in my opinion, wont help sales of the STS much on domestic Soil, which appears to be the only place the DTS is going to be sold anyway, as in the reviewers own words, there isnt a real market for this car overseas.

The only thing I DONT Like too much is the new tail-light scheme. For some reason that tail end REALLY reminds me of the Monte Carlo coupe. Other than that I think its pretty much a hit.

Except for the front and rear, it looks like the current Deville! When are they planning to go RWD? I wonder what chassis they will use for that?

Keep in mind that there may not BE another Deville after this one. Some of the comments in that article really lead me to believe that this car does not line up with their international marketing strategy, despite the fact that its a best seller. If there IS another Deville, it will most certainly go straight to the DTS nameplate, and it will be an entirely different sedan altogether which will probably (Ian Speculation here) ride on the NEXT generation CTS platform or a heavily modified Sigma platform.

I don't like the grille.

But I do like the headlights and dashboard change. Also, Cadillac taillights are supposed to be SLIM and VERTICAL. That's much better thank you.

I'm sorry but I don't agree with anything Cadillac is doing anymore. I for one love to think of them as being big and boxy. I don't support them trashing their history and revamping the entire line-up. I also hate all the new cars' names and they way they look. Sorry but I'm a traditionalist and I really don't care what Europe is doing with cars, I always loved the look and presence that a real american car gave off. If I was in the market for a new luxury sedan, I'd walk my ass right over to Lincoln and pick up a Town Car.

I empathize with you on this to an extent. We now have so many different images of Cadillac, that they could almost all be their own separate company. So far we have the Classic Cadillac so many remember fondly... i.e. Fleetwood, Coupe and Sedan Deville, Eldorado, and classic Seville. On the other side of the ring, a total almost 180* shift, you have this total other direction COMPLETELY... CTS, SRX, STS, XLR. Cars which share little if nothing with their big boaty predecessors (In fact, the Escalade, which if you notice retains a full nameplate, actually shares MORE with the Classic Cadillac's than any of the other models period), and are more European in spirit than anything else. STILL on yet another completely separate axis, youve got these two oddballs that are kind of the bridge between the old and new, but essentially a smoothed over Aurora platform in the 98-04 Seville and 2000- current Deville/DTS (the 92-97 Seville and 92-01 Eldorado are closest to these).

The problem is, what do you do as a car company when all of your customers are slowly either A. Dying off, or B. going overseas to get their cars? While we would love to imagine a world in which the Executives are as in love with the cars as we are, thats just not the case, its a profit driven industry, and a tough one at that. Cadillac made the move to the Art and Science theme and so far they are making big bucks on it. Yes, the argument can be made that we will see how long it lasts, but so far unless reliability and quality problems scare people away, the new Cadillac seems to be hitting all of its targets. It doesnt mean you cant still buy a low mileage example of the Classics if thats your thing.

I love the new Cadillacs, but I also feel that they should have at least one model that has that classic Cadillac sedan look. Big and boxy, with lots of room inside. I would love to see something like Art & Science Meets Fleetwood Brougham in particular.

I hate how everyone says old people are dying off. There will ALWAYS BE OLD PEOPLE. I will be old someday. You will be old someday if you're not already. There will be MORE old people today than yesterday. :rant2:

Anyway about the car... I think it's OK. At least it's still big and roomy. I'd still like to see the Fleetwood back as a non art&sci themed vehicle staying true to its roots being bigger and IMO better than a town car.

I like it.

The article says there's even more interior an trunk space than the model it's replacing, but it looks to me like the only differences are the nose and tail. Everything in between looks like it's the same (interior is different, but that doesn't require more space). It actually looks smaller inside in the pics, but I know it's not.

They are just wringing 2-3 more yearsfrom the current platform. Looks to me like they took a step back to the 90's style with the front and especially the vertical rear end face lifts.

I'm with you except I think lincoln isn't plush and over the top like they all used to be. Give me luxury not sport. When I want sport I can buy it. If you don't give me that living room ride and over stuffed seats where else can I get it? No wonder why I'm selling the 05 300C and happy with my 91 DeVille! What was I thinking!

I'm liking the dash. It's almost like "where did all the buttons go??" It just seems more expensive looking or something. I also like how the wood trim runs from the dash on through the doors.

Even though the grille is a lot larger, it doesn't seem ugly because of the curvature of it and how it wraps towards the headlights.

Hi all. New to these forums after a keyword search and after seeing the '06 DTS highlighted on a TV program in the Chicago area advertising this weeks auto show. FWIW, I own a 2002 DTS and am quite impressed with this subtle Deville re-design. I'm a big fan of where Cadillac seems to be going with their designs and stylings from the DTS, to the Escalade, to the XLR. Keep up the good work at Cadillac and on this board.

Welcome aboard!! You'll love it here, lots of helpful people, etc. My Dad has an 'o3 DTS and they are great cars!

At first a lot of us were shocked at the changes when we saw them on Bush's limo, but I think that's changing now and people are adjusting to the changes positively.

As I see the buttons went to the steering wheel. Agree, the wood trim is great. It reminds me the interior of the new Jaguar XJ. But I guess it's not more than a facelift (both interior and exterior).

What's NOT to like about this car?

Personally this looks like the traditional platform and the 'Art & Science' themes met halfway. Its not as soft and...what's the word here...'bulbous' as the traditional DTS and not as sharp, and cold as the Sigma STS.

I honestly quite like it...the rear's thin vertical taillights appeal to me, the 94-99 body style lover, and yet the sharp, crisp front adds that new, euro flare found on imports!

If 2dfx or his immediate family had the cash, they'd get that model. Ugh, but they wanna replace my baby with one from the 2000-present body style. Yuck.

It's really not a problem for Cadillac to have one FWD vehicle. Why abandon ALL the people up North who want a Cadillac that handles well in the snow? The ULS, Ultra Luxury Sedan, or whatever they end-up calling it, will be the RWD luxury car that goes up against the Lexus LS, BMW 7-Series and Mercedes S-Class.. There's nothing wrong with keeping the DeVille, primarily owned by older people who don't care about performance, or they'd buy a Vette, front wheel drive...

I think the 2006 Cadillac Deville is a Gorgeous Car!! I currently own a 2002 DTS (Sterling Silver) that I purchased this past August, and I absolutely Love it. I have owned several luxury automobiles in the past, but this is my first Cadillac. My wife and I also own an E-320 that she drives. She thinks the DTS is too big for her to drive, which makes me quite happy. I also own an SUV, but I think I have driven it maybe 6 times since August. I first got a glimpse of the '06 Deville on Inauguration Day along the parade route. It's a beautiful car and I'm glad it stayed FWD. The front end/grille brings along another level of class to this already impressive vehicle.

:welcome: and congrats on your DTS! My Dad has an '03 DTS but hardly ever drives it! There was a lot of controversy here over the styling of Bush's Deville and many people were negative about the big toothy grille and strange square rear, but many seemed to have come around now that there are more pics of it out there.

I don't like the new car much, especially the front end. What an odd description "more taut, more agile and more alert".
The dash layout is not bad but the door panels are just plain BORING! They look like something's missing.
As for it looking too much like a STS, hell, all the new Caddy's look alike to me. This will just be another clone. I just don't see why they want all their cars to look the same. Don't like the trend.

Doesn't all wheel drive use more gas?

Don't some cars use computer controlled AWD sysyem that only activates all 4 wheels when it's icy or? Otherwise I think "smarter" vehicles use a system where if it's permenant AWD, only the rear wheels are activated unless conditions call for it?

The extra weight of another axle with gearing might take some fuel but I'm betting that's a trade-off people will accept for the extra traction.

I think the new Cadillacs are hideous. Cadillac used to be the American Rolls Royce. Now it tries to be the American Volkswagon Passat.

I would never buy one today. If at all possible, I will get a new engine for my Brougham if the Olds 307's last day finally comes. Given that it only has 77K, it should be quite a while.

I stopped by the dealer last weekend and they had one 2006 DTS on display (without a sticker price). I was expecting not to like it from the pictures I have seen. But I was pleasantly surprised. It is actually much better looking in person. I liked the addition of chrome accents on the sides and the new front end. The back is better than I expected, but still reminds me a little of a boxy Chrysler. Bottom-line - I would buy this car when it's time to replace my 2004 DTS.
