: Cadillac don't want me to buy an ATS....

Hi Everybody!

I want an ATS, a black one, with Caramel interior, a 3.6L engine in Premium trim.

Trouble is, my dealer doesn't have any, there aren't any near where I live and I can't order one because of the 2013/2014 changeover.

So all the excitement I had for a new car has fizzled away. Guess I'll just have to go crawling back to the 'Germans'

I realize this post adds nothing in the scheme of things, but I'm just sad I can't have a new ATS the way I want it.

If what you described is enough to dissuade you; I don't really think you wanted an ATS (that badly).

dealers often perform what's called a "dealer trade" to get a car that is already built and sitting on another dealer's lot

ask to speak with the sales manager for them to try and locate you an ATS at another dealer that they can get for you on a dealer trade

if they don't want to help you get the car that you want then you probably don't want to be dealing with them anyway

----------

there's only 5 vehicles nationwide on dealer lots that meet your spec list
(i just had our sales dept check)

it's possible that they are too far away from your dealer to do a dealer trade
(we only do dealer trades within 750 miles)

it's also possible they're not interested in doing a dealer trade at all

...

here's what I would suggest:

go back to the dealer and let them know that you did some homework and found out from another dealer that there are some vehicles out there that meet your requirements
and then ask them about doing a dealer trade for one of those vehicles

if you're still getting nowhere with them just leave and put them in your rearview - they don't want your business - and there are other dealers out there that do want it and will treat you right
(maybe send a letter to the owner of the dealership letting them know that their poor service cost them a customer and a sale)

at that point if you still want an ATS you can buy directly from one of the dealers that has the ATS you want or you can try and find another local/semi-local dealer who will do a dealer trade for you

...

i'm also a bit curious as to what the Cadillac Customer SVc reps (Greg and Laura) think about this situation

you've kind of gone shopping for something specific at the wrong time
i'm not saying that you should relax your requirements but that it's just harder to get what you want right now because production is stopped so all that's available is what's already built but not yet sold

My dealer did a dealer trade without hesitation but as Chris said an ATS that meets your requirements may be out of range which in my dealers case was 500 Miles. Are you willing to take a trip to a distant dealer and enjoy the ride home? I was considering it if my dealer had not been able to find the last one in range. If you can get the right price it could actually save you money and in a car you will be proud to own and enjoy.

Picking it up at another dealer is no different than when I picked up my new Corvette at the Corvette museum and drove it back to S FL. Perfect way to break in a new car and enjoy the ride! :)

Your car is at Hennessey Cadillac in Duluth Ga. Telephone number is 678-317-2774. Good luck.

I flew to TX from MA to pick up my V. It was 1 of 4 in the country made the way I wanted. All the rest on the west coast.

Thank you all for your input. Duluth is about 900 miles from here. I guess I don't want it as much as jimsho wanted his V.

Whoever told you you couldn't order a 2014 lied to you, my dealer has been ordering '14 ATS for a few weeks now, they just havent been delivered yet.....pause.... a quick check last '13 order date was 04/18/2013, first order date for '14 was 04/25/2013.

Tell that dealer to go to hell, your friends in the ATS forum have your back.

Buy a plane ticket, get the car, and have a great road trip back home. Problem solved.

and yeah, pissedoffwookie is correct about 2014 orders being placed currently

they're not being built yet but dealers can place orders

I agree with C&C and others...if you can't be patient enough to order a 2014, or find a different dealer, it's best you move on....there are only 5 cars nationwide with your specs as pointed out by Rippy...if you're like the rest of us ATS fanatics who love the car and Brand, you'd find a way.....

Or...maybe his dealer didn't have allotment and was saving him a few months wait time...

Or...maybe his dealer didn't have allotment and was saving him a few months wait time...

GM's term for special orders is 'unallocated sold order' this is precisely for this case.... it is to allow dealers to satisfy customers and fulfill requests regardless allotment, thes cars also go to the front of the line and are built before a dealers allotment. thus if a dealer has none to build they get the car, if they have 10 to build the sold car gets top priority even if ordered last.

That dealer was full of crap, and were doing the old school sleazy cars sales trick of trying to force him or her the take whats on the lot, thinking they have him over a barrel because the car he wants is too far away.

Update!

So I changed my requirements a bit and went with Black and Platinum interior and found one about 150 miles away....very happy camper. Drove it home today...awesome.

Thanks guys, love driving it too. Trying to resist flooring it on a daily basis....

Only negatives so far, XM Radio is awful, compression artifacts galore, same can be said for HD Radio(but I suspect that has nothing to do with Cadillac). The Sirius receiver in my old A4 sounded a bit more natural.
So the only real Cadillac negative is that CUE will not talk to my old click-wheel iPod that worked fine in the A4.

Thats about it..... big smiles.

FWIW I think I recall someone tracing those symptoms to a bad wire between the antenna and the stereo.

My guess is that that is worth a great deal.
