: 2014 CTS Has a 7K Price Increase

This will be interesting. If it priced that close to a BMW or Mercedes Benz which one would buy? Vsport is 60K.

Not surprising. Wonder how much the real v will be when it comes out. At least 80?

Sad, that much of an increase just doesn't seem to be worth it, although I'll reserve my final opinion until I see it in person.

I think the $7K price increase for the base 2014 CTS will generally bode well for 2nd gen CTS resale values. :)

CTSCHICK - 100% agreed. 7k more for a four a four banger too...hmmm. I'm sure the led lights and leather aren't standard either:(

RAB - Fingers crossed:)

The move to turbo four follows on the heels of both BMW (328i, which has been molto successful) and Ford (Fusion Titanium, which has been a giganto flop). The Bimmer has superb acceleration and outstanding mileage (5.9 s 0-60; ~26 mpg overall), while the Fusion (along with its luxo analog the Jaguar XF) has middling acceleration and poor mileage (6.9 s 0-60, ~21 mpg overall). Hope Caddy follows BMW's lead here, and if so it will have a winner.

I need a bit of time to think about it. But let's face it the new CTS is not an entry level Cadillac, this honor goes to the ATS. So i do understand that "base" model CTS is quite higher than the old one. It make perfect sense to me. Would by I buy one? That's a completely a different question. Still I think GM is following big German with both offering and sale strategy. And I think it is a right one. I just hope the quality is there. Otherwise it it good bye a cadillac for me. There are just too many alternatives.....

I still have a wandering eye for the Jag. I also like Audi (but their dealership is just too far for me. Only one in Jax and it is 45 min away).

One major thing that has bugged me about the article is the statement that the new CTS is 1.5 seconds quicker 0-60. Do they mean the new turbo four is that much faster in relation to the 3.0. I can accept that fact, but if they are talking about the 3.6 which is the majority of CTS models sold, then they are just blowing smoke. I've read numerous sources, and no I have not done an "official" test on my own vehicle, but the 2nd Gen CTS with the 3.6 is suppose to do 0-60 in anywhere from 6.0 seconds flat to 6.3 seconds, depending on the source.

Its a bit lighter and in rear wheel drive some of the models have the 8 speed trans. I believe the base models and the AWDs are still a 6 speed.

Only the v sport will have the 8 speed...starts at 59k.

I am not sure the 8 speed is ready for production yet. They were having issues getting it ready in time. Might have the 6 speed to start then the 8 speed. I would never get this French 6 speed ever again. :thehand:

For the love of god, find a new dealer if possible. I understand they need to test it but that seems like way too much testing was going on there. But, I'm glad things are well so far!

When I had the tie rod ends replaced on my old maxima, they drive it 68 miles. I complained and got a free oil change the next time I came in...big deal.

I noticed that too. I can't imagine the 3.0 was doing 0-60 in 7.5 seconds. The 3.6 is definitely in the low 6s.

I had my GMC Sierra into the dealer years ago for a transmission problem (TSB). The dealer owner/sales mgr says, I'll get you a car to use. 5 min later he hands me the keys to this Buick LaSarbe and said, Dave (SM) will call you when your truck is done. I got in and headed home. As I was driving I noticed a coat and some books in the back seat but thought nothing of it as I figured he might have been using it. Later in the day I went to run an errand and spotted the car had regular plates on it and then looked at the stuff in the back seat, checked the glove compartment and found a registration in there with someone's name on it. I figure, OK a recent trade-in.

To make a long story short, he gave me a customers car to use for a day and overnight. No BS, true. When I went to drop off the keys I mentioned to the SM that someone had left a coat and some books in that car. He laughs and says, no thats Joe Somebodys car and he is out of town and left it here to fix. How are the brakes? .

Bankruptcy forced a delay on the transmission. It was also due on the Corvette. 2014 cts will be unique with that transmission.

With all the added complexity it improves fuel economy for a whoping 1.5%!

That show how far the manufacturers will go to eek out any type of mpg. Also, the other German luxobarges will have 8 speeds, so the have to follow this trend. But I also found this an amazing minute mpg.

Should be smoother and quieter at highway speeds.

And at 26 mpg, 1.5% amounts to .39 mpg. After you pointed that out, MoFex, like you I shake my head at the complexity and cost.

Just learned the MSRP (US pricing) for the 2014 CTS AWD 3.6L 1ST Premium Collection is $66,500. :shocked2: That's roughly $15,000 more than what my 2011 CTS AWD 3.6L 1SH Premium stickered for. One will have to question the value of buying a 2014 CTS compared to all the interesting alternative similar priced vehicles, such as the 5 Series, E Class and A6.
Aside from the pricing issue (I think Cadillac has raised the price by thousands too much), I'm still not loving the look of the 3rd gen CTS. I've decided to hang on to my very nice '11 CTS4 Premium for a while to come.

I agree with RAB, the increase of $15,000 causes one to question the value of buying a Cadillac CTS generation III. Some increase in price would be justifiable, but the actual increases announced seem excessive, in my opinion. And I could not have said it better, "I'm still not loving the look of the third generation CTS." Pehaps when I see one in-person . . .

I have thought about this tread a bit more after returning from India. I took a new position and now I am responsible for certain programs globally and managing Australasia specifically hence my trip. But back to the topic, during a tour of one of the plant I noticed a Tata Nano, the $2,500 dollars car and asked if I can look at it. As it turned out it was car owned by the shop manager and he was more than happy to show it to me. There was plenty of space for 4 passengers and a bit of baggage. Car had electric windows, power steering, AC, radio. The quality was amazingly good for such an inexpensive car. My German friend made a comment - "I wonder, is MB 50 times better!" I was absolutely stunned to hear it from a German!
Why I am saying it? Cadillac has to be very careful with the pricing not to loose potential buyers. Price it too high and you loose sales. I know cars are emotional purchases but in this price bracket there is amazing selection not to mention Cadillac has still a way to go to achieve the prestige level completion have. Good luck though I hope the old GM does not rise the ugly head again.

Actually, MoFex, in all truth from what I have read, GM never got rid of that ugly head. They still have too many layers of management and too many internal issues.

Was it Ford who said, "I may be fat, but you're ugly, and ugly is forever!"

(Ford didn't say that).
