Is this a good deal? I'm thinking I could buy these and build them up. Will ls2 heads work on my ls6? I'm also thinking a ls2 TB and a lil bigger cam would be a decent setup.

I need help I'm not an engine builder. Will a setup like this work and is it worth doing?

I'm also thinking I could buy these heads then get them built up and sell them for a lil profit. What's a set of built ls2 heads sell for.

Your LS6 heads are better than LS2 heads because they have lighter valves. Both heads (LS6 and LS2) are 243 castings. The LS6 has sodium-filled exhaust valves and hollow intake valves.

I sold my ls2 heads for around 300.00 with just a few more miles.

The LS2 intake is the worst intake GM made...it flows horribly. Keep your LS6 or get a Fast.

What would somebody pay for a set of well built ls2 heads? Sry if this Is a dumb question...again I'm no engine builder.

what all would be involved in building up some 243 heads. I sorta understand the "porting and polishing" part but what else would you upgrade. I would assume lifters, springs and rockers but remember I don't know.

To build a set of 243 heads I would send them to someone like Advanced Induction or Total Engine Airflow. They would remachine the ports using one a CNC programs, and install the valves and spirngs. They might also mill the heads to increase the compression, but that would depend largely on the rest of the engine build inlcuding whether the engine was to be naturally aspirated or use forced induction (supercharger/turbo charger). The rocker choice also depends on the rest of the build. Both Advanced Inuduction or Total Engine Airflow can explain the options they offer. (Advanced Induction is more responsive to e-mail communication, while Mike Schmidt at Total Engine Airflow seems to prefer phone communication). In any event, you really need to have some idea what the total project will involve even if you set about replacing things (heads, cams, etc.) piecemeal.

What would they sell for completely built?

Ported, polished, valve job, bronze guides, .650 lift springs with titanium retainers: $1200

Stock LS2 or LS6 heads: $300-400

Generally people buy aftermarket heads already done for $1200-1500 and sell their stock LS2/6 ones to recoup $300. Mostly people with LS1's buy them for a cheap upgrade.

Presumably built heads would be worth about the cost of used heads plus the cost of work done, but whether one could get that much for them is problematic. This is because the buyer would have to be looking for exactly the specifications included in the machine work and would have to willing to take the risk that heads coming for an individual seller were as reliable as those coming directly from one of the head builders. Simply put, most potential buyers would prefer to send in their own heads, or buy some from the head builder, and get some sort of warranty.

As Tommy Compton reported, used LS2 heads have gone for about $300 in the past. LS6 heads can sell for a little more if the buyer values and intends to keep the lighter valve setup. I have seen LS6 heads go for as much as $500, but not often. (I have not checked the used head market lately.)
