The other day I noticed that the engine fan stayed on when I turned the car off in the driveway. While it was doing so, the temperature gauge was at about 75%. I'm fairly certain that it is usually dead center. Does that indicate that the coolant is end of life?

Coolant life determines its anti corrosive properties not it's cooking efficiency. Check the level is it low? Sounds like a stocky thermostat to me.

Where should the temp gauge be?

Center is normal. If coolant cap is not holding pressure, could be causing your problem. Some parts stores can check, but only about $5 to replace. If coolant is >4yrs., should replace. You can check w/a DMM. Neg. lead to Batt-, pos lead in coolant, should show about .5V or less if good.

If you have V92 you have an extra water pump that from what I could figure out can continue to run after the engine is off so your cooling system keeps working after you shut off.
