Colleagues,

I just discovered this morning that Helm is listing a new 2013 nav disc for our vehicles.

It is p/n 23128606 and will be released on June 13.

I have just placed my preorder and will let you know when it arrives and how it compares to v. 7.0 from last year.

Please let us know if this version does or does not have the digital clock: it is always exciting to see whether they've corrected the problem or re-screwed it up as each new version is released.:bonkers:

They corrected the clock more than a year ago. I know this because I sent my disc back for the corrected one which they sent and the clock is there. This is a 2012 version.

Well, I received it about 39 minutes ago.

It installs instantly and takes no time to update any of the firmware.

The maps in my neighbourhood are noticably updated.

I could detect no option to switch to a qwerty keyboard.

I also cannot asses graphics and routings as I've not yet driven the car.

The digital clock that returned with v.7.0 continues to be there in v.8.0.

I'll have more information to share once I've had some time with it on the road.

What did you end up paying for it, HST included?

I'd be interested to hear whether the graphics have improved any. I just did a cross-country to Baltimore and back and at some levels the text could be hard to read.

Okay, I just drove down to Watertown using 8.0 today. Here are my observations:

There is no improvement in graphics that i noticed over and above 7.0.

Updates to POIs that I'd like to see were not there. E.g. The Olive Garden in Watertown, that opened over two years ago, does not appear. The Wal-Mart that opened in my neighbourhood seven months ago does not appear.

Updates to the maps in my neighbourhood showing new streets have been done. However, Interstate 781 that opened in December does not appear.

8.0 brings no firmware updates over 7.0. However, if you're using 6.0 or lower, 8.0 will likely update your firmware.

I've run 3.0, 4.1, 5.0, 6.0, 7.0, and now 8.0. All are good, except 6.0 because it removed the digital clock for some reason.

If you must have the latest map database then 8.0 is for you.

If you must have the latest firmware then 7.0 or 8.0 are for you.

At a minimum I'd recommend that everyone run at least 4.1 as it made a substantial change to the firmware as well as the graphics.

Okay, I just used 8.0 to execute a cross-town errand with one way point and a return home.

As with previous versions, I'm saddened to report that it still directs the car in some peculiar routing.

Nevertheless I'm still happy to have 8.0 and would buy it again.

They now have a dashboard explaining the changes and updates made to the new disc.

And I'm pleased to report that one wonky routing that existed in my neighbourhood has been corrected in 8.0.

I just installed the 2013 update and can't find the screen to update or delete a way point. I know it was on the old version, the original factory issued dvd, because I have used it before. Can't edit Way Points either. Never Mind ..... I found a PDF for the Navigation Manual .... and you have to use the Menu option to edit/delete way points .... can't delete them from the add address screen .... even though there is a button there which is greyed out. Is this unfriendly interface present in the new navigation system on the XTS?

I've had a week driving my wife's 2014 Cruze diesel and using its latest generation of navigation system.

The 2014 is missing the same POIs I complained about on the 2013 DTS update. It also has some pretty odd routings. And it is a much more cumbersome user interface. Although it does have the QWERTY keyboard, the graphics are much higher resolution and it seems to process info a touch faster than the unit in my 2008 DTS.

Just thought you'd all like to know that what we have with the 2013 update is pretty comparable to current technology - and we may be judging it too harshly.

Is there a way to verify what version we are running on our nav units.

I just installed the 2013 on a 2010 dts and it said nothing. I was very surprised. Took disk out and then I could not see any maps. Reloaded 2013 map and it loaded it. Taking a long ride this weekend see how it works.

I will let you know
