Hoping to save some time in finding an oil leak on 92 Eldo with the 4.9. (137K)
Won't leak at idle or standing still. Only when going down the freeway. Comes from somewhere on the front of the engine.(right side of car) It is not coming from the pan or front crank seal. Seems to be higher up. Tried dye but it just sprays everywhere. Has anybody else had this problem? Is the intake manifold prone to this? Thanks, bf

Im not so sure whats going on, but it sounds like there is some external leakage, my best guess would be from oil coolers.....

Oil cooler lines are all at the rear of the engine. (left side) I talked to a Cadillac Service Dept. and they said that they change the timing chain case seal on at lease one 4.9 per day. Sounds like it was my turn. Not having much experience with these I hadn't run across that before. Now we all know. Thanks, I'll be back with another question on a later date. fitz

i had the same Problem....by my car it was the line wich goes into the front radiator.... i replaced the seal with an "O-Ring" and the Problem was solved

I had oil leak on my 86 Eldorado Ht4100. I changed out the pan gasket and front seal ... didn't help. Finally found that one of the O rings on the cooler lines where the lines attached to the engine was hard and leaking. Very easy to fix. Very difficult to find.

Also check the oil filter adapter - a known source of leaks. Because it is on top of the engine the leaked oil can end up anywhere.

My '94 started leaking at the rear(drivers side) of the engine (just out of the blue) about a month, or so, ago. I suspected the lines between the filter adapter and the oil cooler in the radiator but, although the lines had oil on them, I was not able to identify the leak.

I didn't want to mess with the connections on the radiator for fear of breaking the radiator. Is this a valid concern? They were tight, I just didn't put a whole lot of ft-lbs on them.

I couldn't get a wrench on the oil filter adapter housing bolt nearest the engine. I guess if I pulled the sending unit off, I could get to it.???

I just replaced my radiator and had to take the lines off, wasnt to bad, just make sure you get a good tight grip on them and dont make a sudden jerk, but go smoothly, very easy to round the edges on one of the bolts. If your careful the radiator should be fine.
