Tough to look at those poor Cadillacs....

I've got more if I can find them. The yards here are littered with old caddys (I only take pics of the messed up ones though)
One yard crushes every month and they still have 4 or 5 at a time. Other yard has about 10-12 of them in stock (but most are stripped of any usable parts and need to be crushed)

Yeah....but sadly, most aren't worth saving. Most of them look like the blue one I posted. I wish I could have bought the black 86 d'elegance. Left side damage aside, it was a gorgeous car. It was easily worth 5-6k prior to being wrecked. Sadly they don't sell cars (I've asked many times).

This was my late aunt's Coupe Deville. She bought it brand new! When she passed over eight years ago it was passed on to one of her daughters who lives here in Vegas. She drove it for a couple of years until the tranny failed; she then put it in storage with the intent of restoring it. It had been in storage for a few years until she recently decided to let it go.
She didn't know where they took it but I spotted it at one of the yards while picking up some pieces for my own Deville.

I wish my junkyard had real cars in it.

Found a 90s Town Car there last time though. Put the wheelbarrow of tools and parts in the trunk, managed to put the seat back and weathered the tropical storm in comfort.

Soon...soon...it will be crunch time on swapping that engine. If I haven't found someplace to get a rearend by then, I may have to lay out the money to buy a whole donor car just to get one.

That Ruby Red Metallic 1991 Buick Regal in the background is identical to my first car. Inherited it from my mom who bought it new, can't tell you how much time I spent riding around in the back seat, front seat, 3 years driving that car.

Some manufacturer should pick up on that idea and mass produce them.

Looks nicer than anything Chevrolet has produced in over 20 years and also better (and more practical) than any El Camino ever produced.

Dave, I think the industry has picked up on the idea. IIRC, you American kiddies call them "Pickups".

Speaking of square, those headlights are atrocious, as are all rectangular/square headlights (I wish we could have just skipped over all 1980's Americana, outside of of comical media). Make mine pre-'80 and two-tone.

I like the decked out long box like that silverado. You can haul more junk and you don't look like a contractor unless its painted white. As far as color schemes on that truck go, two tone is the way to go. Black/grey, black/silver two tone grey, silver/grey, brown/tan, navy blue/grey, red/silver, red/grey, burgandy/grey, the lines on those 70's/80's Silverado really go well with a two tone.

Actually I prefer the mid 70's ones myself. They also look really great with the raised panel trim and two-toned sides
Short box only because of the way they drive with the shorter wheelbase. More fun, easier "city car" to drive.

It has rust, but is solid through and through. I was hitting it so hard with screwdriver I was afraid I'd dent it.
Spent today chipping out caulk and getting rear window out. Tomorrow I hope to get back and cut it out.
Not as good as I would hope for, but cheap, available, and lets just say....I won't have to cut mine out to install new one!
So basically better than bondo!

I may even grab the truck too. mine is dented and has rust so just rust is an improvement.:histeric:

I think that's the car from Serial Mom lol. If not John Hughes best work, perhaps his most hilarious and morbid. I think Beverly Sutphtin was driving a Celeberty wagon, but I swear it was the same color with the woodgrain sides in which she mowed down her son's math teacher for suggesting that her son was messed up in the head and needed therapy because of his obession with horror and slasher flicks.

I'm the same way at the junkyards. I look at these cars and remember that once upon a time, they were all shiny and new and someone's pride and joy. They're not anymore, but they're still giving service by donating needed parts to their counterparts that are still on the road. So, I show them the respect of dismantling them as carefully as possible.

Yes, I'm wierd about cars. Sue me.

yup...I feel bad when I have to break a part (usually due to some idiot messing it up already so it won't come off so I can get to what I need.)
case in point....I had to get a twilight sentinel sensor for a member. the caddy had a cracked up dash top that I had to remove to get to the sensor. It also had a majorly messed up steering column that I couldnt drop to get my screwdriver in the screw above the speedo. It also had a club on the wheel that made it so I couldnt remove the dash top over the wheel. Ended up having to take a prybar to the dash top to get it off.

Never seen a Cadillac like mine in a yard. The yards here rarely have cars that old and the yards back home have none, because they're all still on the road. For this reason, I've yet to ever visit a yard for parts for my own Cadillac.

When I need a part, I am careful removing anything I do not need, but must move to access the parts I do. I also try to keep anything I remove in an obvious spot, so the next person to come along can find it.

I'd imagine. Florida is the official home of the elderly, and 90s Cadillacs are a quite popular choice with them.

If you do happen to get to the yard at some point, I would much appreciate your checking around

I never like seeing Caddies in yards. I'm always careful to not bust up anything else, because someone else (maybe me) might need it, and I hate finding a part I need that is busted up.

I also have this weird habit of absolutely having to shut the doors. 1, it leaves the poor car exposed, IMHO, and 2, I'm that guy who likes to sit in the car to see what it was like. The STS in the yard I visited had really comfy seats :cloud9:

I forgot my phone, but when I got a new bracket for my sun visor, there was an incredible 63-64 CDV in the local yard. And while the paint was long gone in some places, there was NO rust anywhere. The trunk even looked incredible! If only I was out of school.

So I am hoping to go Saturday, Luke. Long ago, when I had a different job, I had a boss. We still talk. Her daughter needs some parts, my half-brother needs some, a friend of mine needs some, because he drives a Chevrolet and it literally broke into pieces from me merely lightly touching it...

Saturday, I am hoping.

Not me. I'm always fine there. Or as happy as I ever really look. Never gambled...but I spend a lot of time there. In Vegas, keeping up with the business I get into, you have no choice. Even mundane activities, such as going to see a film, usually require walking through the Casino. Every building keeps the Casino alone, on e the bottom floor for a reason, you know.

I called my dad, who was many cars away riding out the storm, and had him let me out.

Last time I was at the junkyard I was getting an EGR valve for my girlfriend's Malibu. I noticed that the serial numbers were different then what I'd written down, so I pulled out my phone to compare them. It started downpouring, so I found an old Chevy conversion van with both front doors still on it and jumped inside. That was a pretty comfy spot to compare numbers, and afterwards I found the original owner's manual and flipped through that. It was only when I went to leave did I notice the guy at the back of the van taking the bumper off... :yup:

And Luke, I haven't been to my local yard in a month or two. Maybe this week when I'm off I'll cruise up and see if there are any fender skirts available. :D

Did they build more than one of the Eldorado Brougham Town Cars? I have a feeling that car is long gone from that junk yard and will be appearing at pebble Beach in about ten years.

No, it takes more than mere money, it takes a love of the automotive art form. There are those who think a car is worth restoring because of its' investment potential .... and then there are those that that think a car is worth restoring because it has intrinsic arstistic value.

It has been my privilege to experience cars that were art forms.... that exceeded the mere prestige items of the moment and became "classics" to those who valued such things. The Cadillac Brougham Town car falls into this category. I would be privileged to contribute to its' restoration, if that were possible.

----------

I have loved the automotive art form since I first wanted to drive a hearse! While I know my dad loved cars and has always endorsed my love of real automotive art, I know it was really my Uncle Ralph who knew we shared a love of the art that was created in the creation of really beautiful and great automotive art. Back when great cars were really just used cars Uncle Ralph saw the beauty and artistic worth in these old cars and put his money, not really all that much, into collecting Cords (my favorites) Dusenburgs, V-16 Cadillacs and Marmons ..... not to mention 1903 Fords!

I remember the thrill when he used to visit, the thrill of him showing me the first rubber model of a Mark II Continental and his excitement at showing me this little rubber model. I loved getting to drive his collection of Thunderbirds (1955,1956 and 1958) and I loved his trust in me, when I was in very shaky territory following the death of my father to trust me with the carrying out important duties in his business. More than just grateful, I am truly thankful for this man's empathy and trust during a very difficult period of my life. He took joy in my ownership of one of the first commercial Lamborghinis ... he also took joy in my ownership of an XK E-type and he would have loved the Seville STS's.

I just have to say "Thank you, Uncle Ralph" for your support of those things that I loved. You support of these things allowed me to understand the passions of others and to support others in their dreams and ambitions.

All of those that have dreamed and achieved success have had an Uncle Ralph or an Aunt Tony ... not to mention our parents who believed in us enough to make us who we are!

A '93 Fleetwood Brougham with a beautiful blue interior.

It also had VERY new brake rotors and pads:

I'm really sad about this one. An '82 to '83 Coupe DeVille, completely devoid of rust (at least as far as I could see from where we stood). I asked the guy behind the counter what was going to happened to it, and he said it would be in the yard in a day or two. I'm going back this weekend possibly for a radiator and trim parts.

The picture of the Eldorado Brougham Town Car above appears to be "the" original 1956 "show car." Apparently someone, "Chicago entrepreneur" bought and had it restored by "RM." It was sold at RM Auctions for Over $400,000. If you are interested you can Google "Cadillac Eldorado Brougham Town Car" for the write up.

I am surprised that the 5th gen STS is left there to be trashed by inconsiderate customers! There are many expensive parts in those cars!

By the way, I don't see any damage to the car, at least from this view! Any rear end damage, or it was because of mechanical breakdown that the car was left there?

http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff29/The-Dullahan/FleetwoodEstateWagon_zps6251a0de.jpg

This yard always has something interesting. Previously, I found a '67 Pontiac there with perfect sheet metal. (Missing most of the paint, no real dents and minor surface rust only, which was collectively only on a few spots) All of the glass and interior was gone) and an easily-restorable motor, which was (according to paperwork) was driven to the facility. My Pontiac buddies picked it clean shortly thereafter.

I've also found one of those vendor trucks there (complete with cases of Corona) and on my most recent trip, a panel van with a shovel, duct tape and creepy plastic party mask in it, with the words "FREE CANDY" painted on the side.
