First time on hwy since the install and noticed a whine coming from the rear only at hwy speed and only under acceleration, no whine when off the gas. Or is this my rear end going already? Can't be 05 V with 1000 miles!

Welcome to the rear end club. You'll end up getting it replaced, too.

Sure can. Mine started whining at 700 miles.

take the PS off before you visit the dealer for the whine/new rear end order.

Wouldn't the rear end whine all the time not just under acceleration?
Would some redline gear oil help?

Nope, only under acceleration and usually at speeds north of 43mph or so, and not greater than 50. Although I have driven a regular CTS that whined all the way up to 65-70mph.

Your dealer will do one of two things: replace the entire unit, or do a fluid and additive change. The introduction of fresh oil and additive in the rear will quiet it, but the whine will most likely return. My fluid was done at 800 miles and the rear is still quiet at 2000 miles. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Perhaps you caught it early enough before excessive wear could take place!
I found the drain plug for the rear but where do you fill it from, same thing with trans, can't find drain plug. Seems to be difficult to fill the trans though, if I'm looking at the right thing.

Welcome to the use of urethane! I had a very feint whine
on accel before the pinion support. Now its quite noticeable. You loose your isolation with urethane. That is what the factory doesent use it..

I had a feeling the pinion support was allowing more noise to penetrate into the vehicle. Great point. Still gonna change that rearend fluid and diff lube!
