: How many times has your ATS been in for service?

Hello Everyone!

My car is in service again for the "Malfunction Indicator Lamp" which I think is more affectionately known as the check engine light. It came on again not a month after it was "fixed" the first time but due to work I had to wait until I was back in the country to deal with it. My car has been in for service 2 times.

While I love my car, going into service so soon is frustrating. So far, I've had a:
Sunroof leak - this has been fixed.
My radio doesn't like HD - it's in and out - I've got to call them about checking that, I forgot.
I've experienced the reduced engine power warning and the car stalled as I was pulling into oncoming traffic.
It occasionally stalls when I press the accelerator down faster than usual.
It trembles at idle even when it is warmed up.
The passenger seatbelt/airbag warning was going off whenever something was in the seat (nearly empty purse, sunglasses) - this has stopped.
My CUE worked better before the update...my navigation is a pain to use now.

It has a few cosmetic issues:
Paint chipping on the hood. I have what looks like rock chips on the hood, thing is I know rocks didn't cause the chips ( except for 1). An empty plastic bag was blowing around and "hit" the hood of my car, this resulted in multiple chips where the bag touched it. WTH? Never seen that happen before.

At some point I hit a pothole which resulted in some road rash, paint came off the rim and the lettering came off the tire. I'm going to get the rim fixed AND stay off the road I think it happened on. The tire is fine the letters are just missing, I know the dealer is going to try and get me to buy a new one tire (and maybe even a rim) but I know better the damage is only cosmetic.

*Sighs* Just needed to complain and vent about my car. I LOVE the way it drives but if I have to go into service again next month I'm going to lose it.

Oh yeah, back on topic, how many times has your ATS been in for service? Mine has been in twice.

SIX and still counting! Opened a case this week. Waiting for a District Specialist to talk with the service manager. I'm insisting on a field engineer. Tremble at idle and really ridiculous electrical issues -- some fixed, some return and others change behavior. I really like the car but my situation, after six months, is infuriating. Last visit, service confirmed one of the electrical gremlins and then told me there was also an issue with the PCM. No attempt was made to fix the car. I think the dealer's waiting to hear what Cadillac has to say.

I'm having a data recorder installed today from my dealer. My car dies out when coasting to a stop (manual transmission). It has progressively gotten worse. It used to be every couple of weeks, to now a couple of times a week.
I've been in for service more times than I'd like to count!

Once in the four months owned and that was for the CUE update which only took about 30 minutes since it doesn't have nav. Been absolutley flawless so far.

Back to dealer for 5 Weeks in 5 Months - Tons of problems

Memory Seat, Memory Mirror - modules reprogrammed and replaced, track replaced
No AM/FM - radio unit totally replaced
HVAC Noise - yes the tapping problem
HVAC vibration - Blower totally replaced
HVAC Temp overcooling, AC stays on
Dooors unlock without remote
Horn honks like key in car, but it isn't
Headlights on half the car stay on after turn off ign
Stumbling/Trembling at Idle
Screen Flickering - new LCD
Haptic feedback on "buttons" exaggerated- entire center stack replaced
Warning on DIC for systems I do not even have on the car, ex: Driver Assist
Warnings on CUE : System ERROR ?
.....etc...
GM even sent brand quality manager with 3 engineers to work on the car, but 2 days after get back, new issue , can't save memory positions for anything
....But Yet GM will not replace the car "that's what the warranty is for"
Can't belive I bought this car for $50,000 and GM is just fine telling me to bring it in 25% of the time for waranty repair.
Never buying a Cadillac again - the car is full of electrical problems .
Car of the Year? - I guess only 75% of the time is acceptable to GM.

DAM u guys are having a large number of problems. especially the guys with the premium/performance trims....that is SERIOUSLY un-acceptable. luckly i havent had a single issue yet (except GPS not being accurate all the time) but i would be very angry if mine had half as many issues as the last guy. i sure hope GM steps up and replaces ur cars with non lemons....

wow...im still amazed on the one that paid 50k for a premium and has all these issues....that is seriously un-acceptable.

In Florida a total of 30 days out of service and it is a lemon by state law. Move here to get rid of it. :)

Don't want to jinx myself but my 3.6L premium ATS has been flawless for the 8 months that I have owned it. Luckily for me I've had none of the problems mentioned on this forum!?! My observation is that the majority of mechanical problems happen to the 2.0L and the electrical gremlins are most common in the 2.5L. This is only my anecdotal opinion.

Wow - sad to hear. I have a Premium 3.6 and am in my 7 month with no issues. Have not even done the Cue update yet - love the car and the attention to detail, fit, and finish.

I have only brought my car in once. The chip guard on the rear passenger door frame has crap underneath it, they ordered a new one, I have to come back to get it replaced. Also, this is an issue that crept right back up, my clutch pedal is squeaky as I begin to engage it. They greased it up when I brought it in, but as soon as it gets warm inside the car, it happens still. Not really sure how to get it taken care of lol.

Hello adiaz2331,

I see you have taken your vehicle in for a concern, and it will be replaced once the part arrives. I am sorry you are also experiencing a clutch pedal issue. If you private message me with your contact information, VIN, current mileage and the name and location of the dealership which you are working with, I am more than happy to look into this for you and gather additional information to further assist.

My 2.0T (Premium) has only been in twice. The first time was a stuck valve in the turbo, and the second was for the Cue update.
It's sad to see the problems some people have had. With all the options I have, I'm actually surprised I haven't experienced more issues.
I love my ATS, and hope it continues to be healthy. Now if I could just gets the birds at work to stop crapping on it...

Once for an oil change and Cue update. Although I did have them change out a head light that had some moisture built up inside

Thanks for your support.

I wanted to give GM the chance to make it right, but GM Customer Service is simply stating that the warranty is in place for this reason! really? They have Declined my request to Replace it,and would like to "compensate" me for the time I was without my car - whatever that means -
sounds like a free XM Coffee mug and OnStar keychain on it's way to me!

I will let you know how my case progresses to help others with these problems, and let you know if it's necessary for you to go thru an attorney to get any relief, or if GM takes care of their customers on their own.

Absolutely Amazing that GM would knowingly allow and expect a new Cadillac buyer to bring his car in for repairs nearly a full week Every Month for 5 Months in a row and Not take that car off his hands. Amazing.

Your question: I have had my ATS since December, 2013; only have had it serviced once (CUE update); basically the best car I've ever owned. Any car, from any manufacture (ask my neighbor about his '11 BMW 5 series) can have
problems. Not to excuse Cadillac, or BMW, or Mercedes from their responsibility to manufacture a defect-free car; just not possible.

@katz -- I feel your pain. I opened a case with GM/Cadillac a couple of weeks ago and was just told by the District Specialist that they're not going to do anything. Constant issues since I got the car six months ago, six service visits and GM's response was simply 'the car is operating within specifications'. I requested a field engineer but even that's out. GM's options -- wait until there's a warning light or I can take it to another dealer for a second opinion. The two closest dealers are either 50 miles away or more than 100 miles away.

My tremble at idle issue has deteriorated to where the car has actually stalled four times in the last month. GM doesn't even consider that a safety issue. Electrical gremlins ..here are just a few ... there are a lot more ...

1. Speedometer gauge moves by itself after locking the car.
2. Left front horn emits a muffled hiccup noise after locking the car. Even does it spontaneously. Problem was constant, then disappeared and is now extremely erratic.
3. Regular horn and vehicle locator go off by themselves hours after locking the car. Fixed.
4. XM radio frequently garbles or drops out in open areas where there are no obstructions. Also disappears completely for a day or two at a time. Comes back but the D.I.C. and center display show two different stations playing.
5. Climate control resets to factory defaults by itself. Fixed.
6. Center touch panel lights come on by themselves hours after locking the car. Fixed.
7. PCM losing memory.

Service order receipts mostly show 'no problem found' and there's no documentation of techs doing anything to try and find the issues, except for the few items they fixed.

I'm considering my options at this point. Sadly, GM is not stepping up to the plate. This is my first Cadillac -- it will likely be my last.

This is my third Cadillac. My first was an 08 CTS that was a major lemon, in the shop four months out of the first year! My dealer started the return procedure for me, while I joined this forum to investigate the CTS and CTS-V. As the reliability of the '09s seemed to be a lot better, I took a chance on an '09 CTS-V, which turned out to be a fabulous car, one of the best I ever had, though not completely reliable. No matter it, it was more than good enough to try the brand again, especially as Cadillac is one of the few brands to still offer manual transmissions (who ever thought that would be the case!).

My ATS is now almost four months old, and has 2500 miles on it. I have yet to take it in yet. So far, there are a couple of minor cosmetic defects that I noticed on delivery, and the occasional stall while coasting to a stop- once last week after none for two months. Nothing worthy of taking the car in yet, and I'm still at 60% oil life. Got the recall for the CUE update, which is odd because my car already seems to have it, being built in early February. At this rate I won't reach the 40% oil life needed to get an oil change for at least two more months, but nothing else is important enough to bring it in for, so I'll just wait. That's a nice problem to have, so I'm very satisfied so far. There will always be lemons, unfortunately, but I don't think that's the rule with this car. I would encourage those with persistent problems to pursue a fix as vigorously as necessary, and to pursue a buy-back as necessary as well. Life is too short to live with a lemon.

3 times now.
-USB media would stop reading Fixed by replacing gauge cluster
-HVAC tapping noise. Fixed with software update
-Both wiper blades have a chunk missing 5" from the ends (Annoying when it rains) Still havent gotten parts in
-Now Bluetooth wont show contact information when making phone call. Very annoying because it was never like this before. Dealership told me this was "Normal" and "all new ATS's operate this way"

Does it not work when at the dealer? Are you taking video of it failing in the same spot the Kia works? Something like a signal chain will be almost impossible to diagnose if its working. At least document it with video...

I'm starting to lose count. Mine is at the dealership now, I think this is 4 times in the 3 months I've had it. Radio died, center stack replaced, vents stopped working. This week the radio died again and the car stalled on me 3 times, once in the middle of an intersection. Scary. Working with Cadillac now as the dealership that told me "if you have to come back we will buy the car back" suddenly forgot who I was and told me to call customer service. Today I was told by service dept they are having issues duplicating the stall and the cable for radio issues is on back order. They may need my car for a week or it may be a month I was told. I'm trying very hard to remain patient but this car has been a heartache literally since day 3 when issues started.

Obviously, I can't diagnose a problem in a forum, but these types of situations are very often a bad dealer service department. They try to fix one thing and inadvertently mess up other things in the process including not even getting the original problem fixed right. I'm not saying they are bad people, just in over their head. You aren't the only one in the forums that has all the symptoms of that. If I were you, I would run, not walk, to another dealer service department (and hope they aren't also in over their heads). These situations are tricky with the customer in the middle. The dealer will misreport things to GM to cover up their mistakes because if they become evident, they won't be paid for the work. And while rare, there are dealers who have been caught intentionally causing problems to get the warranty income. I had a GM dealer in the 90s tell me they had to replace the engine in my new car because of coolant leaking from the block into the crank case. But their story was just a bit different depending who I talked to so I had the car in pieces flat bedded to another dealer who found nothing wrong. I still have the car and the engine is fine. The first dealer was later indicted for doing unnecessary repairs.

3500 miles, 3.6L Premium... no visits to dealer.

I have heard the AC clicking noise, but it has went away. My Escalade did the same thing. I have seen the passenger seatbelt light come on and alert me a few times, but that has seemed to stop. I have also seen the headlamp warnign a few times. However, none of it has persisted enough to visit the dealer and as of right now, there are no issues with any of it.

Yikes! I count my self fortunate for not experiencing many problems. I have an ATS4 3.6 Premium, and have been in for the CUE update, and today for an oil change and they did an update to the HVAC control module (Ticking noise? not sure...). I'm on about 7 months now... fingers crossed.
