Need you rubber for 99 STS ,
it is the wifes daily drive. The car is use for looks not go.
Since living a small town the choose are down to Assuranc and Hydro Edge.
Tie( :banghead: )Tire rack appears to have them rated the same . mileage is about the same.
I believe cost are about $10 between the two.
Do not want order off the net. And like to buy local if if can, as the wife does sell products locally.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I have the GY Assurance triple treads on my '02 SLS. and am impressed with them. They perform well, as advertised, in all situations. They are a 80,000 mile tire, so the compund is quite hard. Hard throttle, on dry surfaces, gets the tires to break loose, pretty easily. The tires corner excellent, ride excellent, are quiet, wet weather traction is excellent. I just discovered how they perform in the snow, as we just had our first big snow here in NJ. All I can say, is the car drives, like a AWD car. I assume that the factory traction control and stability systems have something to do with it also. But, I rate these tires a solid A. I hope this helps.

I will look at TOYO TPT.
I have H rated tires on the STS own, both the Assurance and HydroEdge are T rate tires.
Do I have stick with H rated, the dealer said I should , or can I go to a lower rating?
The car is not driven hard.

The H rated tires, are good to 130 mph. The T rated tires are good to 118 mph. Unless you want to drive over 118mph, a T rating is perfectly fine. The dealer will tell you to go H rating, because the STS is capable of reaching that speed. If they suggest a T rating, and you exceed 118 mph, and lose a tire, they hold some liability. So, for legal purposes, they will never suggest anything but a H rated tire.

I was in the same boat when my 97 Regal GS needed tires. I went for Michelins because the shop could get them in sooner, and also because the price was about the same. I tend to think Michelin makes better tires, except maybe the ultra-performance tires from Goodyear. The HydroEdges have thus far performed admirably, though I've never used the Assurance tires. I was considering the TripleTread ones. They do seem like a strong new effort from Goodyear, and I really hope they are very good tires. Goodyear needs some very good tires in the passenger car category again.

Don't be afraid to negotiate the tire prices. I took a Tirerack quote (w. shipping & handling) to a local TiresPlus store and they matched the price. I bought Bridgestone Potenza RE950's for my TurboCoupe. Different animal for sure, but they were premium tires.

I bought Goodyear Assurance Comfortreads. I really like them. They are quiet, handle well, and give a smooth ride. They are also good in the snow.

Know this: Don't pay sticker at the Goodyear dealer. Always dicker. They whacked me with an initial quote of over $500. I ended up getting them for $427, installed, with an oil change.

Good luck.

the local dealer said goodyear does not come in my size 235/60/16 and I should only but H rated tires on since the side walls are stronger then T rated

Just to stick my 2 cents in, I replaced my GY eagle RSA's with Michelin Pilot XGT V4's and am much happier with the all around handling...This is on a 95 Eldo. They were more expensive than your H ratings, but handle better than any ''H" rating I have ever had on any car...

I have Michelin HydroEdge on my '99 SLS. I love the tires. They performed very well during the recent Southern California "monsoons."

I recently bought Goodyear Assurance 3xTred for my 1989 Benz 300TE (my daughter's daily driver). The HydroEdge did not come in an H rating for her tire size (205-60-15). So I got the Assurance tires instead.

The Assurances seem to ride harder and are a little bit noiser. Ride control, however, is excellnt. It is supposed to rain this weekend, so I'll have a chance to test their wet weather performce.

I think that both of these tires are pretty evenly matched.

Good luck.
