I finally got my car painted/body work done (even though its only a 2k maaco job) I opted to get the spray on roof vs. the water/debris holding vinyl and plan on putting the trim/moulding that was around the perimeter of the top back on. My question is how would you do it? put the clips on the car and push the trim on to the trim or put the clips in the trim and try it that way?

Clips on car, then trim onto clips. The other way lies madness.

I removed the roof trim all together...when I removed a couple pieces I bent them up alot so they couldnt straighten them.

If it's damaged beyond repair, you'll have to source replacements from either a local j-yard (good luck) or a Cadillac-specific wrecking yard.

I said scrap the trim....so they ground off the studs, filled the holes and covered the whole roof. They wanted to go down the a pillar with that stuff and i said no way because it wouldnt look stock. I need to drop it off monday because they didnt prep good enough and the roof is bubbled up in a few spots along the edges.

Why not just forego the trim and paint the car as though it never had a top?

Nice car!

I lost the vinyl top as well and went 2-tone.

Why not just forego the trim and paint the car as though it never had a top? mainly because on the roof above the rear window they didnt "finish" the car very well because it was a vinyl top car and it had the cancer in the lower left area of the rear window under the top in the typical cadillac fashion. I used quik steel to fill the hole and they ground it down pretty dang smooth and prepped and primed and shot the bedliner stuff and it looks like a vinyl top without the hassle from pretty close up, and no more rust worries!

I like that alot

Don't bet on the no more rust worries bit. I've seen cars that never had a top still rust around the backlight. The lower channel just seems to be a magnet for water and debris.
