Slashes and Dashes Cadillac-Junkie 01-28-05, 05:37 PM HI , I WAS DRIVING my car today and while driving the defrost came on high, then my mpg light, temp ,range, outside temp light went out and were replaced by{----} so i pulled over and unplugged my blower motor because it was throwing cold air! i check my codes and it read 1033, 1034, 1037, 1038. i looked them up and it stated it was data loss of sir, pcm, acp, icp. is this a computer failer and need to replace it or can it be a fuse? also is it ok to take it for short rides that i need to go to daily, in next couple days til i can find out what it is and fix it? thankS for any help at all, its much needed. thanks SAL cadillactech 01-28-05, 06:31 PM One or more component ( likely only one ) is pulling the data line down. If you can access each component and disconnect it, when you get the faulty one out of the crcuit, the others will resume operation. Cadillac-Junkie 01-28-05, 06:44 PM hi. im sorry but confused. is this computer related? also, i have had my tranny rebuilt last year and started to leak last couple days about .25 a pint every 2 days? or is this electrical? could this have something to do with it? and would it be ok to drive it as is for the weekend? thanks and sorry for the ignorance! also, where do i begin to find out whuats the problem since im not inclined to fix this kind of thing and any idea of what it would cost me? thanks sal cadillactech 01-28-05, 06:49 PM Yes, computer related. It could be a fuse, but not likely. Sounds like you might want to consider a shop that is skilled in Caddy electrical and that you trust to treat you fairly. cadillactech 01-28-05, 06:50 PM It could be as cheap as a fuse or as much as several hundred dollars. You could probably drive it, but it sounds like it's gonna be kinda chilly with no heat! Cadillac-Junkie 01-28-05, 06:52 PM thanks for your quick response. would it be easier if i just replaced the computer? would that solve my problem, i can get a used 1 for 75 bucks? thanks for your info and help its much apprecciated ..sal One or more component ( likely only one ) is pulling the data line down. If you can access each component and disconnect it, when you get the faulty one out of the crcuit, the others will resume operation.
:yeah: You should consider what Cadillactech said here. Take it one step at a time, check the components before you start replacing things. You may find yourself replacing good stuff and not fixing the problem. Garanteed you will be very frustrated. If you are unsure of your ability to diagnose this it may be wise to get help from trusted professionals.
Kev Logandiagnostic 01-28-05, 07:12 PM Circuit 800 problem. The computers are wired together and communicate over circuit 800. If one of the computers start messing up you get the '--' for your data and the loss of data codes you mentioned.
It is one of the following computers...
IPC
DERM
RSS
ABS
ACP
Intermitants can be very hard to pinpoint. Many times its the actual IPC cluster. Rebuilt IPCs can be found at AC Delco radio/speedometer repair shops. Figure about $300 exchange for a new IPC. Thats with you doing the labor of taking out the cluster.
Please note. The GM cluster test terminal will often make the IPC cluster 'look' ok. To them....'--' displayed on the IPC is a normal mode.

All I'm saying is make sure you know the part has failed before you replace it. :)
Kev Logandiagnostic 01-28-05, 07:19 PM I forgot the PCM. That should also be on the list. I have personally seen more IPCs (instrument clusters) cause this then any thing else.
