seriously only way i can think of getting more power with no money is by open headers and open intake. Other than that i can't think of any free mod that will give me a huge hp boost

Here in indiana, you can remove the cat., and get a few ponies. We dont have emissions tests, and most people here have crappy cars that smoke anyway.

only problem is sometimes you loose power because of all the computer crap and 02 sensors. Some cars come with an O2 before and after the cat. So if you remaove the cat the after O2 sensor will start to see unfavorable reading and the computer will compensate for it usually leaning it out. So you gotta put a high flow cat on there. And if you live in Cali you better have a sticker for it

Cool, im sure that Iowa doesnt have too strict emission requirements. The standard is probably set by the CORN!

lol, no vehicle inspections and very few environazis here so its pretty easy to get away with anything you want.

Just hope you don't get caught! Removing a catalytic converter is a federal offense. Period...no matter how much it is or isn't enforced in your jurisdiction. Look up the Clean Air Act of 1990.

If you do remove your converter, be prepared to pay the penalty. Fines are hefty!

I am personally not planning on it, but i was just saying........

Personally, its not worth it to me. Besides, i would rather leave it in there and have clean emissions than get an extra 5hp by taking it out.

I am well aware of the rules, and well aware of the risks. Im not saying just because we don't have inspections I can an will do anthing I want

Modern cats usually don't offer up much restriction. One or two horsepower maybe. The older style, filled with pellets, usually are more restrictive. I forget the actual text of the law -- if the vehicle has a defective converter OR is more than 75,000 miles old, you can legally change it out for a new one. Something like that. I forget.

Mufflers now...those are a different story. :) The factory mufflers are apparently pretty restrictive. I prefer not to change mine out, but that's of course a personal preference...I know lots of people are satisfied with a variety of aftermarket mufflers.
