:histeric: I have a 92 Sedan DeVille that I just got back from the garage after it being there since before Christmas. My transmission I thought was bad as I could only start out in 2nd. Nope, it is fine. Something is telling my car to run in safe mode and no codes are appearing. Can you give me any hints :banghead: before my mechanic and I lose our minds?

Look under the right hand hush panel, there is a fuse and relay center under there, you may find a blown 15 amp fuse there. If it is blown, the A/C compressor will be disabled, you get 2nd gear starts, and eventually a P/S pressure switch code. The usual culprit is shorted wiring at the compressor or a shorted compressor clutch.

Thanks again for your information concening my 92 Cad. The fuse under the right hand hush panel was blown, that took care of the compressor and cruise control, but the trans is still in the fail safe mode. The only computer reading I get is a power steering pressure switch. I don't know if this being faulty would cause the trans to refuse to downshift or not. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I might add, that the compressor clutch was bad, but that has been replaced with a new compressor.

Make sure the fuse is not blown again, a blown fuse will cause the p/s pressure switch code and 2nd gear starts.

Joehen, I am having the same exact problem you are. My compressor locked up on my 91 deville because of a bad clutch, and ended up ripping off the power connection to itself. Now my check engine light comes on, and I have a slower acceleration and cruise control doesn't work. I'm not to sure about which fuses you guys are talking about in particular (mine are numbered) but I'm pretty sure this is the answer i'm looking for. Can you specify the location of these fuses?
