: remove engine cover

Hi
Anyone see anything wrong with removing the engine cover, would it be too hot for the hood paint? Would not think so as long as the hood insulation is in place. Any inputs?
Thanks

It's just for pretties. I've been driving without mine for some time.

One would think the engine could run a bit cooler?

I've been thinking about how to tidy things up a bit under that cover. Maybe paint the valve covers and dress things up a bit. I'd rather show off a clean N* than a clean plastic cover.

I don't want to thread jack this, but I for one would love to see pictures if anyone has done anything like this.

I have seen CF intake mainifold covers on the CTS V8, wonder if its the same mainifold, guess one could look up the part number and check if it fits either one. CTS also has rail covers which expose the intake manifold

it is louder without it and the lifter tick is more annoying

The important cover is the one forward of the motor cover that goes over the top of the radiator support. It seals with the hood. If it is gone the radiator fan pulls hot air out of the engine bay instead of fresh air when you are stopped in traffic. The result is A/c works harder to keep the same temp.

I like the engine cover.

The CTS-V has a different engine so I would say no it wont fit right on.

I do not have one on my SRX? Is there suppose to be one?

Yes you can definitely hear the ticking

Are the lifters supposed to be that loud? I would think you wouldn't hear them really much at all.

You can also buy the GM carbon fiber one if you want a nice one.

If I had the opportunities like in the states you could dip the cover for the CF look, 900 dollars for the CF model from cadillac

I have never been into the "look" thing, I want a CF part not for how it looks but because it is CF.

You could buy wrap and do that if you want the look, maybe I will make one and see how it turns out.

No way could you wrap this, the northstar logo and the ridges make it impossible to get right, true you could buy the real thing but dipping is as close as it gets to a real look, besides no one cares if its real CF unless you take your cars to shows.

I have been thinking of having the cover stripped and painted two tone, like the the middle one color and the sides another. Kind of like some of the newer covers. I will see how much this will cost should not be too much I hope. Just a thought or maybe I will have it done.
