View Full Version : Suggestions BeelzeBob 12-31-02, 12:52 AM Do you have any good ideas that may help this place become the most active Cadillac web site online? If so, please let me know. I'm going to make every effort to make this place THE place to go for FAST answers to important questions.
Thank you jadcock 01-01-03, 08:45 AM Sal, I would suggest another attribute on the left under the screen name: Vehicle. Nissanforums.com does this and this helps out a lot. You can tell easily what someone drives w/o them having to put it in a signature, etc. BeelzeBob 01-01-03, 02:58 PM Great idea. Thank you.. vBulletin is coming out with their next MAJOR upgrade very shortly. I may wait until this upgrade to make modifications like this.. But, I'll look into it as soon as I can.. Probably tonight.. I love this suggestion.. But, once we upgrade to 3.0, we'll lose all our specials features... So.. Let me see how difficult it is.. If it's easy, which I think it is, it's no problem...
Thank you! BeelzeBob 01-01-03, 03:48 PM Just for the record, I want to indicate the names of the forums you mentioned on the GM site..
Northstar (performance, maintenance, etc.)
Pushrod (performance, maintenance, etc.)
Entertainment Mods (stereos, DVDs, etc.)
Suspension Tech (lowering kits, shocks, etc.)
Service Information (advise for dealer visits, etc.)
Body Mods (ground effects, fog lights, etc.)
Kill Stories (obvious)
For Sale (obvious)
Suggestion Box (suggestions on improving the forum)
I'm going to have to figure out a good way to get all these forums going without going overboard.. I can have SubForums here - so that may make this process very easy... BeelzeBob 01-01-03, 03:53 PM Note for self.. Photo section OFF the forums.. System which allows people to upload and view photos... jadcock 01-01-03, 04:01 PM I'd recommend the following layout, based on what I've seen on lots of boards out there, with the following structure:
Section
- Forum1
- Forum2
General
- General Discussion (anything/introductions/etc)
- Suggestion Box (forum improvement suggestions)
- For Sale/Wanted (obvious)
- Kill Stories (for fish stories and tall tales  )
Performance/Modifications
- Northstar Performance (intakes/exhaust/cams/etc)
- Pushrod Performance (same)
- Suspension Modifications (springs/shocks/kits/etc)
- Infotainment Modifications (stereos/dvds/subs/etc)
Vehicle Discussion
- Seville/Eldorado (body/interior/options/etc)
- Deville (same)
- Fleetwood (same)
- Other (same)
I would say the fewer forums the better, like Bruce said on the gmforums.com site. Over on Nissanforums, you'd get lost in the multitudes of forums they have. :) Less really is more. I'm no expert on these things, but that seems to be what works well. I was on the GMforums site before they revamped it and there were about 20 Caddy forums, and few were used. I think combining some of the forums will keep it more concise and easy to organize. BeelzeBob 01-01-03, 09:31 PM ...so what do you think?
P.S. Nice web site.. You build that? That Seville is very nice, too.. The interior kinda reminds me of my ETC. Nice 'n clean.. But, I had the '95 - before the update. Mad'lac 01-01-03, 09:39 PM The changes are good :) I'll admit it caught me off-gaurd when I came in here. Hey maybe after this site gets a bit bigger maybe a chatroom would be good too. BeelzeBob 01-01-03, 09:58 PM Yes. When this site starts moving, I'll be considering a good chat room.. Sorry about the shocker with the forums! :p BeelzeBob 01-02-03, 02:10 AM Originally posted by jadcock

All taken care of. :) jadcock 01-02-03, 08:40 PM Originally posted by Sal Collaziano

Thanks. Yep...built it myself, over years and years. If you notice, it's the same as my '84 Cutlass, which was my first car (in '95). I sold it in Nov. 2001 to get the Cadillac, but I kept the webpage format since I think it works really well. That's certainly been an evolution of the art. :p Mad'lac 01-02-03, 08:55 PM Hey Sal is there anyway to pick our 15 smilies to display in the post reply page? BeelzeBob 01-03-03, 01:18 AM Yeah, the site looks great.. You definitely have some designer in you.. It's rare you see a homepage look like that.. You know..
As for the smileys.. There's probably a modification somewhere that would make this possible - but I don't know of it.. Which ones don't you like? Maybe I'll just remove them and see if people complain.. I doubt they will.. Fleetwood SS 01-09-03, 10:45 AM Ahhh! No Fleetwood section!?! BeelzeBob 01-09-03, 11:18 AM Hi Fleetwood SS! Welcome aboard! Actually, the Fleetwood section has been combined with the DeVille section for the time being.. Once things start taking off and we've got a lot of action, we'll probably seperate things more. But for now, while things are just getting started, we want to keep the forums as unintimidating as possible. Too many forums tend to scare new comers away... Katshot 01-09-03, 12:45 PM I agree will Dan. You need a Fleetwood section. BeelzeBob 01-09-03, 05:13 PM We actually do - we just post Fleetwood discussions in the DeVille area.. I have a poll set up regarding this in the General Discussions forum. Mad'lac 01-09-03, 07:56 PM It might be a good idea to put the Fleetwood name next to the Deville name in bold letters. Fleetwoods get love too ya know ;) BeelzeBob 01-09-03, 08:59 PM Done :) Fleetwood SS 01-09-03, 10:35 PM Rockin'! elwesso 01-14-03, 06:21 PM hey, this is a little thing, but is there anyway to make it so that the default on the quick reply is to show signature. I noticed there isnt even an option on GMFORUMS. In a nutshell, i am lazy and i dont remember to click it. BeelzeBob 01-14-03, 06:31 PM I hear ya! I know.. I tried to make this work - but I was unsuccessful.. There IS a way to do this - and it'll be coming soon.. I don't want to make too many major changes because there's a new version coming out and I want the upgrade to go smoothly.. Plus, the new version HAS this feature perfected and supported.. You'll like it. Trust me. :) The day it comes out, we'll have it..
The way I have it now, it's a very minor change.. It was very easy to add this in.. The OTHER way - the way that allows the signature box to be checked, is a bit complicated... And, it could cause upgrade problems down the road..
Don't worry. It's only a matter of time.. This place is going to step up with a lot of new, interesting features very shortly... | |
