Ok I read a post on here that said with a little modification the stock 472 manifold would work just as good as the edelbrock manifold when put on a 425 so I need to know what needs to be done to the manifold to make it perform better. next I have a chance to get an complet 472 engine from a 68 minuse the manifold however I have no place to store it so I need to Know what I should get off of it that will give my 425 a boost I was thinking of getting the heads and having them rebuilt but what I need to know is will they fit and will they give me any better performance.

does anyone know if I can stick the stock 472 cylinder heads on my 425?

they will
but IIRC it will bring around 13:1 compression... or was that 425 heads on a 472?
either way it would also not have much after 4k RPM... stock it is almost redline, and this is good if used in a truck, but not really for a high perfomrance car engine...

hey night wolf I know I will feel stupid when I find out but wtf is IIRC?

well I'm not really looking for to high performance but the my valve guides are startin to wearout so I was thinking that if I was going to have the cylinder heads rebuilt that maby the ones from the 472 would boost performance a little and I'm stumped at IIRC to plus I didn't think these 425's went to much more than 4k RPM.

yeah... If I Remember Correctly :)
and... IIRC the redline on a stock 425 was around 4,200RPM?

But the 472 heads will fit on the 425 with no extra work also what kind of boost could I get from them

dunno the 425 head specs, but if you were to boost the compression up to 13:1 as mentioned above, you'd boost your wallet up to paying for race gas and not much else :hide:

the problem with the 472/500 heads on the 425 is bore size. The combustion chamber of the 472/500 heads are larger than that of the 425 heads. it would give a less than favorable burn quality.
the water holes on a 472/500 block don't line up with 425 heads.....i would assume the same is true with 472/500 heads on a 425 block.
