: Anyone seen this before? Broken oil pickup tube on 2006 V

My V probably has more miles on it than most with 155k, but I have never even heard of one of these breaking like this. When starting the car Saturday morning it has zero oil pressure. I immediately turned it off and put a mechanical gauge on it... 0 psi. I went through this once before when the oil pressure relief valve stuck about 6 months ago. I put a new pump on and it has been good ever since.

Given my previous experience I thought there had to be something sticking that valve open again. I towed it to my shop and removed the pump. This time the valve was shut and looked good(as did the pickup tube o-ring). Next I pulled the pan found that the bracket on the strainer end of the pickup tube had broke off. Without that intact I'm sure it was just sucking against the bottom of the oil pan. Aside from a cam swap 5,000 miles ago, this engine has never been apart. Anyone seen this before? I googled the crap out of this and didn't find any instances on any lsx based vehicles.

I never seen, nor heard of it. Nice catch though, many of us might have ruined the engine looking for the problem while assuming it was a bad gauge or the like.

Mine was broken in the same place on '05 with 116k. No oil pressure problems though. Found it after I pulled the engine for swap.

I pulled the number 8 rod cap and the bearing still looked like new. I think I might have got lucky in that regard. It probably only ran 15 seconds or so. If these didn't put the low-oil pressure message on the radio/nav screen it would have been a goner for sure. Pulling the pan in the car is a PITA. I used an engine support bar so I could raise the engine while hanging the cradle down.

That did cross my mind... What if the broken bracket wasn't actually causing the problem.. I didn't see anything else so my fingers are crossed that a new tube fixes it.

New pickup tube arrives tomorrow. With any luck I'll be back to burnouts tomorrow night.

I finished installing the new pickup tube tonight and oil pressure is back to normal. Runs as good as ever and hopefully no permanent damage was done. I'll cut the oil filter open at the next oil change to see if there are any surprises. I would recommend to anyone who has their pan off to throw a new pickup tube in. This could have really sucked.
