Is there any way to find out what options are on a car based upon the vin? I'm looking at a used SRX. The salesman on the phone says it's AWD, but the ad online said rear-wheel drive. Carfax says rear-wheel drive, but it says rear-wheel drive on all SRX's, including those that I know are AWD. The dealer selling is three hours away and I don't want to waste the time going there if it's not what we want.
Thanks for any ideas.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no special code to differentiate between the two drivetrains in the VIN. However, go to the parts counter at a nearby dealer, and they can look up everything pertaining to the car, including wether or not it has AWD. (as well as other options)

I didn't see anything in the vin that says if it has AWD or not. If you check codes though, see if it has MV3 or MX5. If it does, those are the codes for the transfer case, which means it would have AWD.
