: How To Replace Oil Pan Gasket

Maybe it is time for me to get a service manual as I now see why I got (what I thought was) such a good deal on my Escalade. Can't really see much from the pics, but gives an idea of how dirty she is under there. ALso I trying to figure out what the numbers mean on the oil filter??? I hope its not miles, as it has 153k on it now, so that would be like 100k on an oil filter. eek

I suppose I should have said. Does anyone have experience doing it, and willing to offer advice? looks like it might be a pain.

3.5 hrs labor... you need a hoist... can't do it in your garage at home

where theres a will, theres a way haha.. or not :thepan:

That is what I was afraid of, having to drop the subframe

Correction... no hoist needed, can be done in the garage at home, i lowered the front diff and did not have to disconnect any driveline, removed the oil cooler lines and dropped the pan, used floor jacks and stands

From the 5 minutes I looked at it, that is what I was thinking of trying. 3.5 hours labor/ pshhh I am sure it will take me at least 8

How bad was the job? I need to replace the gasket on my wife's 07 ESV.

Do you have to slide the trans back? Did you have to disconnect the drive shaft from front diff or can you leave the front shaft and axles in place and just lower the whole unit? Not scared to get my hands dirty but just wanted to know what to expect and whether there were any curve balls. Looks fairly straight forward with enough beer. Can't stomach paying 6-700 bucks for that cheap of a part.

Thanks in advance for the tips.

Its actually not bad at all. I replaced the drivers motor mount and the pan gasket at the same time. Yes you have to pull down the front diff, which isnt very hard. With the diff out of the way, the pan is very accessible. No moving of the trans. Really pretty easy job. A couple of jacks and some jackstands. The leak right there around the pan is common. Had to replace gasket on an 07 and an 08. Same leak and same place.

I posted to another thread on this topic seeking further clarification: Can you drop the front driveshaft+Diff or do you separate diff from driveshafts and drop it independently from shafts? Do you need to remove the diff cover to disconnect drive shafts or do they just pop out once you unbolt diff case?
