The exhaust system of the 1968 cadillac eldorado I just bought makes noise when I press the throttle pedal.

As I said in a previous message, the car has been sitting for a long time.
I went to see an "exhaust system specialist".

1. He says that there does not seem to be any leak and that the noise is due to to the accumulation of carbon deposit in the muffler and that is not much to do about it (but replace the muffler maybe).
What do you think ?

2. if there are carbon deposits in the exhaust system, does that mean that there also have to be carbon deposits in the engine and that this could explain the feeling of loss of power that I mentionned in my previoous message (sittin 1968 eldorado) ?

Any suggestions welcome

If an exhaust 'specialist' says there are carbon deposits in the exhaust there probably are, and I'd replace the muffler. Mufflers are cheap, if you have a welder installation is free otherwise they'll charge you a lot.

It doesn't necissarily mean there are serious deposits in the engine, but there very well could be. If you want to know for sure you can pull a head and check or possibly find someone with one of those scopes that bend and you can check that way.. You might try running some seafoam through.
