: Leaving Cadillac

Yup, sorry to say it guys. I couldn't have had a better experience, but I've been driving the ETC for a year and want to truly buy my own car. (First, it was my mom's, then the tranny went and she got an 2001 STS and my bro drove the ETC for a year or two before he got his Bimmer, then I "inherited" it.)

Anyway, I'm going to buy a 1987 Buick Grand National. It's just a matter of time before I find an acceptable GN that is relatively close to me. What do you guys think? How do you think it will compare?

I will always have respect for Cadillac, they are amazing cars and I will stand by them through and through. The upcoming years look promising and I hope to own one (or more) later on down the road.

I'll post up some pics when I get one, hopefully ASAP.

Awesome, I am glad you are leaving Cadillac for reasons other than hating them, lol. Hope that Grand National turns out!

You sir, have excellent taste. Post pics (and videos, please) of the GN when you get it!

Well, I bought this one for $9,500. I'll get more pics once it's registered, and I wish I didn't suck at photography...

GNs are pretty awesome but IMO they're a bit overrated and priced for what they are. It would be a toss up between a nice ETC and a GN for me. Definately a cool car though.

badass, i've always liked those. if it were up to me, i'd build a gn clone with a v8 cause no matter how fast they are, they sound horrible, lol

18 years old, and a Grand National. I sure would hate to see your insurance rates now. :tisk: :)

Whoooosh! That is one bad ass automobile. :2thumbs: I always liked GNs, a lot of hi-tech stuff in it for its time. You have to baby this one, keep her in a garage, as a true collectible it'll appreciate even more in years to come...

I like how the speedo only goes to 85, what a joke.

I know it's not the most aerodynamic body but I'm sure it'll go well beoynd that...

Great car! Your photography is quite good!! My co-worker had one in 1990 that he bought new in 1987. The only thing he ever did to it was cut out the cat converter, but I'm not sure that it would make much for performance gains in that car, it was powerful enough as it is.

Take care of it!! Did you mention the mileage? Those seats are minty!

Holy crap, a GN without a drooping headliner!

Thanks for the comments, guys. I made a little site as a "profile" for the Mid Atlantic Grand National Association web page. http://ludushax.com/kyles/gn.htm I put down what I know as far as mods go.

It doesn't have a cat, so I don't know how I'm going to pass inspection, hopefully I can slip the guy some bills or something, lol.

It's got 122k miles, engine and trans were rebuilt by Anderson Performance at 100k.

It definitely feels pretty good over 85, the Scanmaster has a digital speedo in it, and although 90 mph doesn't feel as stable as in the Eldo, I'm not planning on getting her up there very often.

Insurance is under my parents name, thank God.

Still waiting for some nice weather to take some more pictures...

Try and find a GNX. Those are the nicest, fastest, but rarest ones. I always wanted a Grand National, and hope to buy one someday. I'll get around to it eventually. Good Luck with your search, hope you find a really nice one.

Try to find a nice GNX you can afford.

Talk about a world of difference between two cars! The GN will definately hold its value a whole lot better than the ETC but IMO, it's one of those cars that, although it's fast, is really a cheap car. I had several G-body cars through the years and I always liked them but, they are by no means in the caliber of a ETC. Totally comparing apples to oranges. Good luck with it though, and try to respect it's power. All too many end up getting bent around a tree or something because the driver was not mature enough to handle it properly.

well, that was the whole thing with the Grand National....

they are sleepers.. 85mph speedo, only auto, very simple gauges, heavy body on frame design, most people look at it and think generic 80's GM (kids today that don't know what they are) and such

they are really nice cars though.... maybe one day I'll have one :)
