Just wondering does anyone else have a problem with poor gas mileage on the 2007 CTS or is it just my car? I can put a half tank of gas in, drive to work (30 miles), return home and the gauge is at or below quarter of a tank. The "check engine" light is NOT on....thanks.

The gauge on the dash is poor at best.

Try the Fuel Used reading in the NAV as one method. The best would be to fill it up , drive to work then fill it up again, that's your definitive way.

If you can't afford a full tank of 93 octane, you shouldn't have bought this car. In fact, if gas mileage was a concern, you shouldn't have considered a performance vehicle at all.

Put in a full tank and report back. What is this half tank junk?

At least he is running primo... A guy that I used to live near me with a cobalt SS turbo used to run 87 octane in his car... Its a 15psi stock... And he would complain about how his car felt sluggish.

I agree you should full up the tank. Having low fuel allows for condensation in the tank, the fuel pump can pick up more sediment and clog the shit up, aaaaand if the police want to pull you over, you can't get far on a half a tank at full throttle

Why the hell is this in the Appearance subforum? Because he "appears" to be getting poor gas mileage? Or because it "looks" bad to get stranded on the side of the road in an expensive car?

Like everyone else said, you need to actually measure your gas mileage. I average about 14mpg around town and about 20mph on the highway.

I agree this is pretty ridiculous, you should go by the miles not the guage. One thing for sure about my car the guage full to half moves a lot slower than the half to empty

Does the OP even have a V? How do we know he puts in primo? This whole thread is ridiculous.

LOL. Anyways yes quit filling your car up with 5 gallons and considering that is half a tank cause the needle reads half. The first "half" of the gauge I get 175 miles and the second "half" about 100. Anyways I average about 17.3, maybe better with the warm weather starting to arrive. Our 170hp Nissan rogue averages about 21 in city driving as well. So it costs 25% more to drive a 400hp sedan? Okay with me for now.

Is your car a V or a regular cts?

Come on fuzzy you're too intelligent and helpful to treat a 50yr old man that way on his first post, point him in the right direction.

Meaning I should have politely pointed him toward a Prius?

"Brick are you just looking at things, and saying you love them, or do you really love the lamp?" Classic!! 15.5 in mine, won't put anything less than 89 with a bottle of octane boost...I've ran 87 before, and well..let's just say I'll never do it again..93 or better if you can..periodically I'll throw a few gallons of 110 just to make it purrr better..lol

Fyi most octane boosters are 1 point each... meaning, 89.0 to 89.1

I understand when 91+ isn't available, but otherwise...

About seven years ago, I accidentally put about 10 gal of 92 in my tank. I'm still haunted by it.

Getting back to the main point, our gas gauges are about the most non-linear ones I've ever seen. OP, fill up your tank, and you won't use so much. :)

Non-linear, yes I concur. Basically u better fill up at half a tank! Lol
