So I just bought a 1982 Coupe Deville with 71k , I've owned several coupes but only 1 other 4100 car. The car has been sitting a while and after a 20+ mile drive home I parked it, but not before it decided to mark its spot with a small puddle of tranny fluid and a chatter coming from somewhere around the tranny or rear of the motor. In 16 years playing with cars I have never heard this noise. It's hard to isolate it but it does seem to be from the front of tranny. Any ideas what this could be?
Thanks in advance!

Does it sound like stones got into the torque converter area?? Or flywheel chatter??

Could be someone didn't tighten the flexplate (flywheel) to crank fasteners properly. There's only like 2 and a half of them and they use TormentX heads.

Sorry to hear that. I guess you'll be putting in another trans?

I am trying to get a donor car to pull the engine and trans out of, this way I could avoid future 4100 problems... worst case, I will put another trans in, but would prefer to do a conversion now...

I'd go for a chevy 350/ LT1 or olds 350 for a good mix of power and performance.

So, just I picked up a 307 and 200 out of a cutlass, no donor car but pretty complete set up and should be tackling it this weekend. I did one of these 15+ years ago, so hopefully its like riding a bike!

Would the a/c work, as well as all the other accessories/electronics, once the 307 is installed?

AC- you would need lines from an 86-89 brougham and an olds compressor
Alternator you may be able to use 4100 one and swap the pulley.
PS, water pump, etc are 307 specific
If you get the complete computer, harness, etc. for the 307, your idiot lights should work. If you go non CCC carb, you will need to pull the check engine bulb (or just live with it like I do). You will also need to change the dizzy to a non CCC one (computer controls the advance IIRC)
