I fired up the tape player last night, listening to some James Bond 007 music from back when, I noticed on acceleration there was a high pitched whir, with the tape playing.

On full throttle acceleration it sounds like you have a turbo or something(a diesel turbo, like maybe a semi or something, not the sound of a car turbo!). It sounded neat as hell, best results are finding a spot on the tape, like the begininng, where it takes 10-15 seconds to start playing the song.

I believe it's caused by a bad ground in the radio..

carguy16, i have the same thing with my '88. whenever i have the tape player going and i am accelerating there is a high pitched noise. the pitch increases as with the engine speed. ive always wondered what this was.

Could also be caused by a bad plug wire and or crack in a distributor cap. Check out Crutfields website in the tech info. It gives common causes for noises.

Yep, that happens when there is an electrical situation. It has been covered here, I have made one or two extensive posts about it.
