: ipod hook- up...again

A while back I bought the upac ipod hook up for my 2011 sts and appreciated all the help from everyone. as it turned out, I lost some functions in driver 2 screen after hook up, which had me talking to the upac techs many times. the driver 1 screen was working fine, then after 2 weeks the nav screen went blank and nothing worked at all no nav, radio or ipod. after unplugging the system everything returned to normal with all functions. I did return the item.
Now, can I use an a/v component hookup? how do I get it to function and play ipod music through the radio speakers? I realize I have to control what I play through the ipod. are all component sets equal? what's recommended?

Thanks to all

Too bad. Didn't they offer a replacement?

Anyway, are you now trying to use the RCA line-level jacks inside the armrest compartment?

All you need a is 3.5mm plug to RCA plug audio cable & choose the Aux hardkey on the Nav. They are mostly the same. On the web, you'll pay more for shipping than the cable. If you want to use the power jack & an adapter, some cheap ones introduce hum. There are isolators that help to varying degrees.

that 3.5mm, does that actually become a 3 wire plug (l&r audio and a video)? also, if I want to keep the ipod charging, do I need the 30pin plug from the base of the ipod that has the usb on the other end of it that will fit into a cig lighter adapter? I have seen the a/v component sets for ipod hookup, that's all I need correct?

The 3.5mm plug I referred to is just audio, like for a headphone jack. A single cable that connects audio, video & power is going to be more expensive. Video will be disabled when in motion without a Lockpick.

This subject should be in the sticky by now...
Do a search, there are a few threads on these inputs and what you can do with them. Pretty nice feature to have
