Whats up boys...
just put the corsa exhaust on my wagon (black tips)... Now I want to add the intake. One thing i am cautious about is warranty being voided due to the super charger an adding an intake, and the other is the nasty check engine light.
I dont want to get the car tuned, as it is brand new.. But i put intakes on all my cars....
I personally like the look of the D3 intake but, it seems that you can find a little better deal on the AirRaid intake. Performance wise, my guess is they are pretty much the same. D3 does have awesome hands on support and they frequent this forum and are actively involved here so, for me, I'd go D3.
Intake and Exhaust wo/tune is pretty risky. Not sure about the LSA, but with any other Supercharged car... this is a BIG NO NO. Exhaust is usually okay, but intake usually is a bad idea on a stock tune.
I run a D3 intake with a custom 3" exhaust and it went well with the stock tune but at times I did notice (besides lots of power!) some odd idle blips and the occasional hick-up (no more annoying than the supercharger rattle, need a solid isolator) which isn't major by any means but the drivability was good and I didn't see any obvious signs of overworking the stock tune.
2009-2010 do not need a tune, 2011-early 2012 absolutely will need a tune, later 2012-2013 can be hit or miss . The factory tune in the 2011- early 2012's can not compensate for the increased amount of air flow that our intake provides.
with todays day and age and how advanced these computer systems are I wouldnt worry about a tune with your intake. These things compensate. I never once in my life has any issues when it came to adding an intake to an otherwise stock car.

Not sure about that one...... The D3 intake has caused lean issues and trouble codes for folks here on the board requiring a tune.
The Airaid seems to be the best solid trouble free choice. Others here on board have taken the Airaid one step further and have upgraded the Airaids filter to the larger K&N RF-1044 and are experiencing incredible results.
That's absolutely silly to me that an intake would cause any sort of issue. IMHO the fact that the air raid has no issues yet the d3 does says which one to buy in itself.
what is the correct AIRRAID part number, model number for the V series engine? or is it the same intake compatible for both regular CTS and CTS-V models?
You can run a stock tune with intake and exhaust. Your car is excessively rich from the factory, thats why we gain so much from just a tune. If you add the intake and exhaust and slowly work up to WOT letting the ECU dial in the trim, you will be fine. if you hear clicking noise then back off the throttle and let the trim catch up
The o2 sensors will pick up the subtle change in the mixture and adjust accordingly. Its not like you are drastically changing your cams, heads and porting the snot and expecting the ECU to keep up.
I don't think the intake can void your waranty unless that's what causes the problem on your car when you take it in for warranty. Most dealerships are cool with this from my experience.
I agree, YMMV, but from stock I installed an intake and then 3 weeks later an exhaust and starting at stock the car idled mint and ran perfect. I noticed no trouble. With the air intake installed I noticed the engine would sometimes slightly rev itself and fight the brakes. Maybe this happened before? Maybe it didn't. Keep in mind that k&n filters come with oil on them and have been seen to cause MAF cleanliness issues. Like I said about the idle blips..
Also, I cleaned the filter with the recharge kit and lightly applied filter oil to it so that it contained a reduced amount of oil and now is less likely to contaminate the MAF. I haven't had a problem since.

I hate to add to your decision, but I went with New Era's and love it!!! The 4" piping flows amazing and having the filter down in the fender makes me happy knowing there's nothing but cold air
As another data point, I installed an Airaid in my 2012 CTS-V automatic with no tune and it's been awesome. Noticeable performance improvement, great supercharger whine, and zero codes, check engine lights, etc. The engine loves gulping that additional air.
I have other cars that are modded and tuned to the tits... not interested in a big headache with this car. But i just cant leave well enough alone... looks like I am not the only one... lol

Greg_D3,
What is an "early 2012"? Mine was built on 12/5/11. I am looking at your CAI but live in Northern Utah. It would be hard to tune it up here.
Thanks,
Blake
How do you know if you have the right one? Mine is a 2012 and I want to order D3 Intake, but I really do not feel like tuning the car for a while because I literally just bought it yesterday lol

If getting the D3 actually delivered to you is anything like when I ordered lowering springs from D3...
Save yourself the time and headaches and order the Airaid. I have been running it on mine for a couple of years now along with a Borla X-pipe and cat back with no issues.
