: Storage compartment door above glove box broken

This is regarding the storage compartment door that is above the glove box. On my 2009 it has the wood facia on it and the release button. Anyway, the mechanism that automatically opens the door is broken. I went to close the door and something snapped. Now the door is loose and has to be opened manually. I think I probably need a new door assembly but I have looked on the GM Parts websites and cannot locate this component. Luckily, I do have the service information on how to remove it once I do get the new part.

Thanks for the help!!!

see if there's any helpful info in this post. A Cad. technician was fixing this problem by drilling another anchor hole.

Thanks for the reply and the link to that old post. I think I'll take it out this weekend and see if I can't "fix" it myself.

ROB......do you have a warranty extension from GM? The reason I ask is that the door and/or the mechanism that failed may be covered. If you have the warranty extension, the repair or replacement may be a covered item. Or partially covered (i.e., the parts but not the labor. Read the extension. If it is not clear, call your dealer for clarification. My dealership has been very straight and helpful on some items like this and for others here on the forum. NOTHING VENTURED NOTHING GAINED. PJ

I am just out of the B to B warranty due to miles but I do have a CPO warranty that is good until 2015. However, the CPO does not cover Body and Interior -> http://www.cadillac.com/certified-pre-owned-vehicles/warranty.html

I am due for an oil change so I think I'll make an appointment and see if they'll cover it anyway.

I just ran into this rlh6805. I posted about the fix years ago and just haven't seen any in awhile and haven't been on the forum either. Did you get yours fixed?

The 2nd post links to your 2007 fix. I would be of benefit to know if the poster was able to implement your suggested fix.
So far I haven't had a problem but recalled that several were having issues with broken storage compartments doors and remembered someone posting a repair

Hello,

Unfortunately mine broke where the door attaches to the opening mechanism. The spring attaching points are still intact. I can put my hand on the opener and it is still sprung. The problem is that the plastic part that connects the door to it snapped. I need to take the whole thing out to get a better look but I suspect that a new assembly is required to fix it.

On another note, the CPO warranty will not cover it.
