While cleaning my windshield inside, I notice this brown colored flat bar at the top of the right side pillar post against the windshield. Looks like a wire might come out of it and run into the pillar post. There is a gold colored symbol that looks like a letter Y on the bar. What is it? On a 07 DTS.

My car doesn't have anything on the pillar. What I assume is the radio antenna comes down from the roof about 8 inches to the left of it and extends across the right side of the windshield an inch or so from the top. Looks like a single electric defroster wire.

----------

It could be part of a discrete radar detector (they're illegal in some states).

Hope this works, I am going to try to attach a picture of it. I am sitting in the passenger seat looking at the upper right side of the windshield.

It look like a antenna for a tv I have something similar in the same area in my car. But mine is alot smaller. The car is at the garage now but when I have a chance today I will post a photo of it.

No TV in the car, but it does have the NAV/Bose that I think will play DVD's. There is also the rainsensor option but there is some kind of box behind the rear view mirror for that. I would guess that the black antenna on the roof is for XM radio so I dont know if OnStar uses the same antenna. If you look at my picture and tilt your head to the left it looks like a gold letter Y on the device.

Looks to be this:

With a little more searching, found it's a Hirschmann Mobile Phone Slim Patch Antenna,MCA 1890 Slim tri mode. What looks like a "Y" is actually a "h".

Good Job. Thats exactly what it is. I have searched for hours on end. Its great when you can enlist the help of other's. Now I have to wonder if there is such a thing as using some aftermarket device to bypass using OnStar and wire your Cadillac to use bluetooth through the radio????

In more research I see that there are indeed several units that can take the place of OnStar. They all seem to use the antennas that the car already has. I don't see an antenna lead hanging from under the dash of my car unless someone just cut it off. The ad's for the Hirschmann antenna seem like they have either a small coax connector or a BNC connector at the end. Would you suspect I may have a bluetooth device somewhere in the car or is it just an old time cellular antenna range extender?? If I push the OnStar button I start getting a speech about Onstar and if I push the button on the steering wheel that has the voice icon it just mutes the radio. I did take my bluetooth phone into the car and did a scan while the car was running and it found nothing.

Being that you have the antenna, are you sure you don't have the bluetooth already? Seems like it might be, I mean how were they using it?

I am the 3rd owner and I think the previous owners were maybe in their late 60's early 70's and I have no idea about the 1st owner. I found a welcome letter in the glove box from Onstar to the last owner so I suspect they might not of had anything to do with extra antenna and they also owned the car since 2009. I see that some of these aftermarket bluetooth devices plug into where the OnStar box is. If I knew where that was maybe I could take a peek.

The Bluetooth units only allow you to utilize your OnStar mic and speaker for phone calls. Nothing related to cell phone service. The range extender doesn't point to Bluetooth.

The OnStar module is mounted on a "tray", behind the rear seatback.

So it just extends the range of the onstar phone?
Hmm never had a problem with onstar being out of range, or are you saying that you can use the cell phone and access the onstar mic and speakers... Bare with me... I'm not the brightest bulb on the tree :)

Not sure which you're talking about. The antenna on the OPs windshield enhances CELL PHONE signal.

Well I got a hold of the previous owner and he had no idea what I was talking about. He said he used the OnStar system. Must just be that the owner prior to 2009 put the antenna on to increase the range of his cell phone. We'll leave it at that and thanks to all that offered help.

Not sure what happen to my last post but here goes. I found the previous owner and contacted them. They only used OnStar since 2009 to present and they didn't know anything about the antenna on the upper right side windshield. The owner prior to 2009 must of had it installed and I assume that at that time there was no such Onstar conversion kit available. So we will just leave it that the antenna was a range extension for a cell phone before 2009. Thanks to all for all the info.

To check to see if it's working, you would have to go to a location with poor cell phone coverage. With the car turned off, check to see how many bars is on the phone, then turn the car on and recheck the bars. If you see an improvement, then it's still working.
