Hello Cadillac people - I am new here!

My security light will not shut off.

Is there a way to reset my security system?

Try doing this, close door/locked and the proceed with key to open, thatll deactivate the system.
When is it flashing, when ignition off engine not running, ignition on car running...
Dont know whether my troubleshoot manual for my 80 would assist in this matter since yours is much older

My security light is flashing and shuts down ignition.

Won't turn off at the door lock and I think the problem might be in the door.

If I leave my key in the 1st "on" position in ignition for
a few minutes sometimes the light goes out and it starts.

What procedure can I follow to try to reset it first?

Is it possible to disconnect the door alarm?

I have only driven the car for a month before I stored it for the winter and was looking forward to having it painted and
re-roofed but this situation is disturbing me

Thanks for any help.

This forum has nothing to do with your car problems. Please read the text in each forum title to find out what gets posted there.

Moved to the proper Brougham forums.

You posted another essentially identical thread on this a couple of days ago, in Help Desk. It was moved here and is now merged with this most recent thread.

I suggest that you read the CF Rules and Guidelines for posting multiple threads on the same subject. There is a whole series of 'sticky' posts concerning forum etiquette contained in the Help Desk area.

You can simply remove the light behind the tell-tale display that illumintaes it.

Hey at least your come on lol, mine doesn't work anymore. The light illuminates when the car first starts up for the bulb check. Does anyone have a write up on how the system works?

I do but its for a 1980 cadillac, but may be the same for this year. I know that it requires 6 fuses in order for the system to work. Also, there's two other fuses under rhe dash pad, at least mine did in my previous 80 brougham coupe. My current 80 coupe, does not have this feature but i kade use of tell-tale. You know that red L.E.D. light alarms have that flashes, well I routed behind the tell-tale and when it flashes (when armed) it illuminates it. Pretty cool. If it helps, I'll scan it and upload tomorrow in the morning after work. Im at work right now.

First Off - want to apologize for posting same thing twice; I just couldn't find original on this as I am new
and in fetal stage of leaning how to get around here.

2nd - thanks alot for reply help!

I will be at the Caddi tonight.

I did two things unusual that may have triggered it - 1 - I bumbed and jarred the passenger side rearview mirror. 2 - I manually pulled a bit on the slid open skylight as it was stalling to close (motor?; then it closed.

Someone has told me to turn ignition key to mid position before the dash board light on position and wait
several minutes; then if security light shuts off to turn ignition key to lights-on position; start it and
the security system should be reset.

AND - locking all the doors and then opening from outside does not deactivate my problem

Thanks for diagram of Deterrent System; thats next to tackle if no simple reset.

(If front door locks are the problem I would just like to disconnect them forever; I NEVER leave
anything inside car)

Bumping the mirror and tugging on the sunroof cover won't cause alarm issues. I'd consider it a coincidence.

This is what I recall from owners manual
When opening door and ignition off the light will come on to remind you to arm your system. At door switch use lock switch to lock doors and close door. Then the light should flash intermittently. To disarm, use key to unlock door and that will deactivate alarm and allow you to start car..if you leave window down, for example, and you lock door at switch and close it and if you pull up on knob to open door, the alarm will go off. It will sound horn and flash all exterior lights..
Believe there's more to it but I dont have manual here to see. I'll scan it maņana (:

I think that's backwards. With the ignition off and a door opened with the car unlocked the security light should flash. WHen you lock the car with the power lock switch the light should go solid and stay on until you close the door, then it'll go off and stay off until the door is opened again or the alarm goes off. The rest is right.

The 1980 diagrams might be different then the newer ones, I think the alarm is part of one of the computers.
