I see some of the LS-3 crowd using the LS-9 cam in motors that are not S/C. Plus some local guys where I am at say they are a good swap and are fairly cheap new. Any advice or opinions. I have an '05 LS-6. I am just trying to get some info.
You will gain with the LS9 cam for it has similar lift but more duration, and later you can hit it with a blower and enjoy it even more, HOWEVER, if you want wow cam and a maggie go with the GT9 from LPE. Its sick and sounds like stock with a little more tone

Square port heads want a cam with less overlap.
I have a LS9 cam in my car with PRC .650 lift valve springs. My buddy has the same in his vette. Look up camminc5 on YouTube. He has kooks and Corsa.

I thought about putting the LS9 cam in my 408, but decided to just reuse my stock LS6 cam instead.
LS-9 has a nice little lope. Nothing radical, just enough to know it aint stock!

GM hotcam is better choice for cathedral port heads. It will create more dynamic compression and get you better power under the curve: 219/228@.50 .525/.525 lift 112 LSA
The LS-9 cam has a much wider LSA-- I think 122.5. Not a good choice for an NA LS-6 motor.
the 122 is for FI, the larger the LSA the more air is forced in the chamber and not out the exhaust..
The LS6 cam has a 116 so i see a benefit where they can add a SC later on and not have to change the cam...
Thats why I got the LS-9 Cam, hopefully a Maggie will be on next summer! :cool:
