Does anyone know which years of the Fleetwood/Brougham were equipped with overdrive transmissions? I've read that they were installed as far back as 1980, but none of the shift indicators have the "O" around the D to indicate overdrive. However, my 1989 Brougham doesn't have the "O", either, but it definitely has overdrive. I had to replace the solenoid for it, and I can feel it engaging when I drive.

Your 89 has a TH200-4R OD trans. D is OD on the gear pattern selector. OD began with the optional 4.1 V6 in late 1980, and debuted behind a V8 with the intro of the HT4100 in 81.

So a V8-6-4 from 1981 will not have an overdrive transmission, then? Thanks!

No, the 81 368 got TH400.

What cars got the 4100 in 81? AFAIK, the 4100 didn't start until 82?

Well, with cars, the model year usually starts early, so '82 cars with the HT4100 were available in late 1981. I think.

I mis-typed. The HT4100 started in 82, the Buick 4.1 V6 started in late 80.

I would take a V8-6-4 and the THM400 over ANY of the HT4100's anyday...

Jay I think you were right the first time ... I believe they used the 200 4r in 81 behind the buick V6 4.1 ...
