i appreciate all your patience with my gun and chopper posts and questions of the last year as i've tried to learn more about the car i wanted so much. Finally just over a week ago my V coupe showed up at the dealer, just how i ordered it. It came in about 6 weeks as opposed to the 11 planned, so glad i got the GTO sold quickly to make room in the garage.

The basics of it are raven black (easily touched up/repaired if needed), black interior, recaros, suede, black rims, no sunroof (more headroom, only tilts anyway), and of course a manual 6 spd tran. I also got the wheel locks that they forgot to install, and i ordered a set of black lugs elsewhere, so if anyone wants a cheap pair of factory wheel locks, let me know.

not even 200 miles on it, almost still scared to drive it and get a flaw in it, but here's a few pics of what it looked like upon arrival...

I noticed the easy touch up of the raven black too in mine, is there a reason? congrats!!

Thanks, and yes, hope for the best, but plan for the worst!

Nothing wrong with black that a California Duster can't fix :)

I like the lower-left photo. Took me a minute to realize you didn't just lay a huge V decal in the street :)

Nice looking car congrats. Resist the temptation to do wide open throttle starts until you have at least 500 miles on the clock. The problem is not so much the motor or the trans but the rear end will not break in right if it is torqued out before the ring and pinion wears in properly. I've had two V's now that this was the case (not my fault they were both driven by the dealer first 300 miles) and they both made a whining sound (the 2012 at 40 and 80 mph and my 2013 @ 50 MPH) recently replaced the differential carrier on my 2013 with 8K miles on it now and no more whine from the rear, I was very careful breaking this one in, varied my speeds a real lot and drove it like there was egg between my foot and the pedal, it worked.

Is the whining anything like exhaust drone I think I'm getting at 60?

No, more of higher pitch. It sounds like my old 4wd jeep did when in 4wd, not exactly how a cadillac is suppose to sound. I can imagine it leads also to premature failure of the rear end if not broken in properly. There is a TSB out about it. It makes the noise either when on the gas or off the gas or both. Mine got to the point where it made the noise either on or off the gas. I'm glad the dealer was in complete agreement that we needed to replace the Diff. carrier in my car, the car feels a lot more like a luxury car should now.

muchas gracias, well worth the wait. that pic of the garages in the car reflection did come out cool. yeah, i'm barely driving it, and trying to be gentle when i do. took into hill country for lots of varying revs between not lugging and not too high. admittedly i did go higher RPM's than i wanted in one spurt. was watching the boost gage trying to figure out why it doesn't seem consistent with what i'd expect. dang thing's so smooth and quiet i didn't realize how high the revs got! just short bursts and back right off. gotta induce the loads, but just for short periods of time and let the back motion break everything in. doing the same with clutch and brakes of course too. this car's going to be around a LONG time, so wanna take dang good care of it. still a lot easier than breaking in a new chopper!

here's a few pics of the car, now without badges. yes, i have plans for where the holes are left from the cadillac badges...:)

Cadillaxe: I'm also upgrading from a GTO ('06) to a V (wagon). Mind if I ask how your GTO sale went, and how much the car went for? I need to decide among a trade-in (unlikely), CarMax sale, or private party. I'm wondering what the demand is for GTOs, what kind of price one can get, etc., from a private party. The CarMax offer was actually pretty good, and of course would avoid the hassle of selling the car myself.

neuronbob, if you want a signed copy (might be worth more if i don't survive the next surgery, haha), can get those at ychrome.com. o.w. it can be had at stores, amazon, nook, kindle, etc.

r_calif, i asked 12,500 off the bat for my gto, high i knew, but i thought i'd be waiting 3 months for the caddy too. a guy from Fl called the day after it went on ebay, had me do a compression test for $100 (min is 100 psi, all 8 were 170-180 psi), and we settled on $10,500 and were both happy with that. it had 118K miles on it, but it was extremely clean and well maintained. i strongly recommend doing what i do, make sure everything works, spend the $200 to get any little dings out of it, i took some factory silver paint and touched up a couple chips, etc. it definitely pays to have a car as perfect as possible when you tr to sell it. had i not done that, easily could've made it a $7500 sale, not a $10,500 sale. i will say not everyone wants a gto, but those that do, really want a gto.

Thanks for the advice! Problem is, my car has some non-trivial paint damage... not sure I want to pay cash to fix it, then end up selling to CarMax in the end anyway because private party doesn't work out. Something for me to think about.

way i think of it is any time a car gets sold, if it needs a $500 part, it's about $600-700 off the selling price, so always figure it best to have everything as good as i can. but if you're paying to have the work done vs. doing it yourself, that can change things too. good luck!

I was trying to get a pic of the bridgestone V in this tent at MotoGP Sunday, but those dang girls kept getting in the way. :yup: oh well, you can see what i was looking at, and God bless Texas!! What i didn't understand is why they put flares on the fenders, but no wider tires than factory on the car??

That looks exactly like my car but those dang girls are blocking my view!

The way they spread out they basically made it impossible to get a good shot of the car.

But from what I can see in the shadows, those are some strange fender flares.

04-24-13, 06:51 AM
i know! i didn't want to ask them to move as i didn't want to follow in their dad's footsteps as another overbearing male in their life contributing to their esteem issues, so i suffered through it. but yes, those flares and still stock size tires, no sense.

last night i realized my handy 1-4 shift bypass i installed somehow prevented me from putting the car in reverse. jacked back up, removed it, plugged back in as original, and worked fine, even w/o being turned on, and now works fine again. have no idea why it'd prevent reverse, but whatever.

did get the calipers, rear hubs, and tailpipes blacked out, pic below. i couldn't see the extra several hundred bucks for red or yellow calipers when spray paint is way cheaper and i wanted black anyway. i first used a high temp BBQ grill paint, but it was so flat it looked old. So after that i put a couple coats of gloss finish on top to dress it up. Plastidip is next.

i tried the plastidip this week. you can get more details on that thread at http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/2009-2013-cadillac-cts-v-appearance/253116-tips-when-using-plasti-dip-your-3.html#post3297830 . Due to technical difficulty and wanting to be able to drive it instead of look at it in the garage, i only plastidipped the wheel centers and the grill meshes. explanation on the other thread.

Here's a quick walkthrough on it. This is nothing new for anyone that has a v coupe, and is pre-black out on some of the parts, mods will be a different vid.

here's a picture of progress so far from my prototype shop on the new grill badge. will be a matching one for the trunk badge too. hopefully receive them, get them chromed and installed before the drive to CO at the end of June!

Discount Tire usually has their act together, but this time ordered non-locking black lugs instead of locking black lugs, so waiting another week or two for them to get that right.

got the black locking lug nuts last night and put them on. wheel area should be all done for now. I have an unopened locking factory set of lugs (1 per wheel) i ordered with the car i don't need. One forum member had already asked about them, but his inbox is full so can't get a hold of him. i think they were $115 as a factory option. if someone wants them for an even hundred or so including shipping to US location, lemme know.

Got an awesome deal through the V club. yesterday got rock star parking in Austin at the Australian V8 supercar race. they had a tent set up (thank fck for shade yesterday!), breakfast, lunch, snack, drinks (means a lot too when you're dealing with $14 burgers), paddock tour, got to meet one of the drivers, see the cars up close, awesome bunch of people and a helluva good time! Thanks to the Texas V club for arranging it. Here's a quick snap of all the pictures. if you want to see them bigger with comments, you can see them on fb https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.515827448453168.1073741825.250851624950753&type=3

Sweet car!

Why does it say "BATCHELOR" on the rear? Shouldn't it be "BACHELOR"? The misspelling looks especially out of place.

it DID say that before i debadged it, that's the name of the local dealership. agree with the thought behind your comment though, but i guess technically it should've said "divorcte" in my case, haha.

Why does your screenname not have a - in CTS-V? It's not CTSV!

my buddy has one of the shorter barrel kimber .45. helluva nice shooting pistol. i just don't like carrying anything with a thumb safety. one more thing to remember and hard to teach an old dog new tricks.

i see you're in Jax. i used to live in the luxurious neighborhood of bert rd/arlington. gorgeous area, haha.

posted this over on the radar detector thread too, but to keep all my stuff in one place, here's the install/operation of my Valentine One on the mirror. Considerations:
- Invisicord blades are too thick for this model, so used the safe n sound i believe with thinner blades. ended up cutting the cable shorter and buying the connectors/crimpers for phone jacks.
- i sent the mirror to technicar and had them embed the indicators in the mirror. since it has self dimming, they had to send it to the fancy cooler laser cutter who still broke the glass and had to install non auto dimming glass, which is fine with dark tinted back window
- the blend mount puts a V1 below the mirror, which i didn't like, so i made an extension bracket to place it to the right and behind the mirror. no blind spots for me, but all powered by mirror, no cables down, can still adjust volume/mute the v1, v1 can 'see' past the mirror and ahead fine

posted this over on the thermal vision thread too, but to keep all my stuff in one place, here's the install/operation of my FLIR. Considerations:
- Fab'd a bracket for mounting cam in the grill, made sure not to block air flow for cooling
- Lucked out finding one prototype lockpick that allows video input
- ran cable through firewall grommet above clutch
- clean install, no additional holes/cuts in console, uses existing switches for operation

http://youtu.be/V7eVe75fvC4

----------

finally got all the cosmetic items complete:
- stripped all the cadillac badges off with putty knife/dental floss and heat gun
- blacked out calipers and exhaust tips
- plasti dipped all the chrome, but removed all but the grill and wheel centers
- black lugs for wheels
- had axe badges machined and chromed to replace the front and rear cadillac badges
- had to put the bouncing off guardrails sticker on the back window. hopefully accountant agrees that's advertising and should allow the car to be a tax write off, but i doubt it...
