proud new owner of a 2012 CTS V coupe. Only has 2300 miles on the odometer. Love the car but think something may be wrong... According tothe clock I am only getting 6 MPG. I only filled up once but going to see how many miles i get on a tank. Only occasionally am I hitting florr, otherwise its 10 miles a day to work.
I suspect your short distance doesn't allow the car to warm and I would also suspect it's stop and go, also check your tire pressures, I run mine 2 over the recommended PSI and it seems to help.
I have an 11 mile commute to work that is a 40/60 split of rural city and rural highway and I can barely get my 2011 V A6 to 14 MPG. Our other car is a Volt so I go from one extreme to another. So I'm very sensitive to fuel mileage, hypermiling etc.
6 is way off. I stop and go 10-15 miles a day and can at least get 12-14. 14-16 depending on highway driving for appointments and meetings. 19-21 highway depending on hills and speed. 19-21 stays at 80-85 too not just at 66 mph where 20-22 is the norm.
I have a 2102 Black Diamond Coupe manual with about 6K miles and drive 8 miles each way to work and this past winter I have been averaging
13.5 MPG. I took one long trip to Long Island (230 Miles round trip) and got 18 MPG. 6 MPG is not right and may be a data error. I check my
mileage by using a mileage app for my Galaxy and it closely agrees with the car's calculations. Record the mileage with an app or pen and paper (remember those!) to verify the car's readings.

^^^^^What he said. I was a little concerned when my brand new V displayed 8.1 mpg for the first tank of gas. Then I realized they did not reset the mileage from the first 55 miles of its life when it was likely flogged numerous times by tire-kicking joyriders at the dealership.
The 13 - 14 mpg on the Vee is about the same as my other ride so I guess I am used to it.
Although my MPG wasn't as low as 6, it was down around 10 and 11 when I first picked up my '11 Vagon used, with 8K miles. I did reset the average MPG and eventually settled it self out to 14.8 MPG. That is 90% freeway and 10% town/stop & go traffic.
If you want to be 100% sure, don't use the in-car mpg tools. Do it the old fashioned way, keep track of your mileage and divide the number of miles traveled between fillups by the number of gallons you put in the tank. I have an app called Gas Cubby that does it this way, so its 100% accurate.
Why is this a discussion? The "V" is not an economy car and never will be. If you feel that you need to engage in economy moves, you're in the wrong car. Please, spare us and head for other sites and by all means, sell your "V" and get an enclosed golf cart and "feel good" about lowering your "carbon footprint." I want to increase mine as much as possible. It's all about quality of life. Enjoy what you want today; tomorrow may never come. But if you really want to save the planet and your wallet, drive a bicycle. Ha haa!
