It depends on how low it is.
Get yourself a nice set of gauges if you want to do this yourself. They aren't too expensive.

I'm doing it myself. I'm going to vacuum the line down. I already have everything just need to know how many cans.

I was refilling peoples cars all last summer and they took about 3 of the small cans. You'll need a temp gauge to stick in the vents.

Be careful not to overcharge it. When I bought my new car it was overcharged, which actually is just as bad as being undercharged.

Is it still set up for R12 or has it been converted for r134a?

No cans. R-134 sucks in these cars. Especially in Alabama where it gets hot.

Ebay. Get some real R-12.

The condensor in your car is the wrong type to remove heat from R-134A. It needs to be a crossflow type to work well.

Some of these places ask for a refrigerant certification. You can take it online. Basically it confirms venting freon will get you in trouble....
