Hey guys new to the site,

I was wondering im trying to get rid of the factory nav in my 04 escalade and get an aftermarket nav system. Im not trying to break the bank since I don't use this truck that much but am looking for one that plays dvds, has backup camera, compatible to steering wheel controls, works with the factory 6 disc changer and works with the rear TV entertainment system, let me know what you think.

Thanks

I hate to break it to you but no aftermarket radio will work with the factory cd changer and rear seat entertainment system

Most DVD/nav head units can do a video out to a rear screen(such as the rear DVD system) but would require routing cables

Cadillac man is right about the cd changer. The rear DVD player will function independently even with the factory unit removed so no big deal there. If your stock navigation unit and changer are in good shape, you can sell them for somewhere between $500-$600 last time I checked. You will need an adapter for the stock amp to aftermarket radio (about $100). You need a steering wheel control adapter (about $50). That leaves you between $350-$450 for a head unit and camera without spending a dime. Did this quite some time ago with my 06 and installed a Pioneer AVH-X45000BT head unit. For about $100 out of pocket, I now have built in Bluetooth audio/phone, iPod control and backup camera.

The adaptors is the same price as they where when you installed your radio mike(hence why I got your used radio vs a aftermarket radio)

DVD nav units are great but be careful as you get what you pay for so if you get a cheap radio it may not hold up over time(I got a vr3 nav/DVD radio one time it was nice and the price was cheap but it didn't last long)

Why wouldn't there just be a av input that can be routed into the aftermarket radio? Isn't that just how all the other 6 disc changers out there have been run?

heres alittle bit different of an idea, could I run the cd changer through an fm modular

No dice as you have no way to control it and it also uses the data bus that the radio uses

yea just thought of that, so what would be the overall most compatible radio to this truck?

It's up to you I would shop around for a good one but in order to break even (between the cost of the interfaces and harnesses) I would stay with a bit higher end radio just don't get a no name brand radio

Is the old Unit still in good shape? I have been on the look out for one without paying $700.

If you really need a disc changer most aftermarket brands like pioneer, Jvc, and Kenwood all have one you can buy with your aftermarket radio.

yeah it kind of sux man, i was wanting to do the same thing, i dont have factory navigation but was wanting a double din DVD upfront since i already have a garmin and barely ever use gps anyways! but i dont want to install a aftermarket and then have a pointless 6 disc in the dash just sitting there, and also losing the rear dvd audio, so you would only be able to use the headphones for the back! ...Im not to excited about having to spend like 100 on a adapter for my steering wheel controls either, and as far as the adapter for the factory amp mikedyke was talking about im not sure what that is!?...Ill prob just end up keeping my factory head unit, which as of the other day stopped reading cds! Unless i come across a really good deal on a aftermarket double din!
