So I'm finally getting my car back from the paint shop this week (will post pics) and now I plan on fixing the sending unit. My fuel gauge says its full most of the time and when im running low on gas the gauge will sometimes go down. Was just wondering what the average cost is to replace the sending unit. And if its not to much of a pain to install myself. Been searching online and haven't found any good answers. So any advice is truly appreciated

About 150 bucks with a new pump, you have to drop the tank, and you need a cheap fuel fitting disconnect tool.

I see that the pump is around 150. So would you recommended taking it to a shop to get done or do it myself?

Do you want, and are you capable of doing it yourself?

It's not a bad job to do yourself. Just make sure you empty the fuel tank otherwise it's stupid heavy.
Here's my thread on it: http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/rwd-19xx-1984-deville-fleetwood-1985/271115-changing-fuel-level-sender.html

Thanks for the advice guys I appreciate it. Oh I forgot to mention this too but the guy I bought my caddy from told me he had barely put a brand new fuel pump before I bought the car. So I still need to buy a whole new pump?

Fuel sending unit and fuel pump are usually two different items.

Yes, just remove the pump and put in your new sender.
